    No s**t.

Oh FGS, just how bloody senselessly neglectful can any of this debacle get? What the hell is wrong with people today? There appears to be no awareness of priority about anything.

It's not deliberately neglectful. Due to cutbacks, they just don't have enough staff.

From page 170 of this thread #4232:
300,000 Britons Demand: Close UK Borders Now
    http://www.breitbart.com/london/2015...k-borders-now/

More than 300,000 Britons have signed a government petition calling for an immediate halt to all immigration into the UK until the so-called Islamic State is defeated.

The petition has been live since September but received relatively little attention until Friday evening’s Paris attacks, when the number of signatories suddenly rocketed.

By Saturday morning, around 40,000 people had signed but that number has now risen seven times over in the space of just 24 hours.

    The petition:

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/107516

which has now reached 333,619 signatures.

    http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2112878&page=170

The petition has reached 441000 now and still going. Not surprisingly there's been very little in the main stream media about it. They probably considered rather an inconvenient truth.

Greece: Migrants sent to Athens after being refused entry to Macedonia
Between 50 and 100 migrants left Idomeni by train, Saturday, after being refused entry to Macedonia because they were deemed to be economic migrants and not refugees. Greek authorities organised the transport and took the migrants, who were mostly from Morocco, to Athens.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oc2wiB3iyJA

I guess that means several hundred other economic migrants have decided to stick it out at the border.

The far right in France is poised for its biggest victory yet
Support for France’s far-right party, the National Front, has been surging following the deadly attacks in Paris on November 13.

And the party appears set for its biggest victory yet at the French regional elections this weekend, when the country votes in the first round.

    <snip>
The party’s anti-immigration and anti-European Union stance is resonating with voters amid a climate of fear of terrorism and social instability, especially after last month’s attacks, for which the Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility. More than ever since the attacks, the main concerns for the French electorate have become the migrant crisis and security issues, which benefit the National Front

i wonder how many have disappeared because they were lying about their age.

The number of children who disappear soon after arriving in the UK as asylum seekers has doubled over the past year, raising fears that they are being spirited away by traffickers into domestic servitude, the sex trade or are ending up on the streets, and adding to concerns that local authorities are increasingly unable to cope with the demands being put on them.

Yes, some will be lying but most won't be.

Doesn't seem to be a great deal of "Union" in the European Union.

It's not cutbacks they never were searched. Only ever was a selected number of lorries. Reality is international trade would be massively hit if every vehicle was searched.

Migrant crisis: The hard road through Bulgaria
As Bulgaria steps up security at its borders, migrants travelling through the country to Serbia face tougher checks from police. The BBC's Nick Thorpe spoke to some of those who made it to Serbia.
Fear stalks the mountain passes between Bulgaria and Serbia, but it is a different calibre of fear to that on the streets of Paris or Brussels.

Cambridge becomes one of the first UK cities to offer sanctuary to refugees from Syria
Cambridge is among the first cities in the UK to welcome refugees from Syria, with the first families having arrived during the week.

The UK has committed to resettling 20,000 refugees escaping violence in Syria. This process will take place during the next five years. As part of this effort, Cambridge has offered to house 50 refugees with the first thought to have arrived quietly during the week. More are expected to come in the weeks before Christmas.

Why do they get houses ahead of homeless British people? Why are we importing homeless poor people (who are no doubt members of a barbaric cult no less) when we already have homeless and poor people that need help in this country? Who is paying for these Syrian's 'free' housing?

A BESTSELLING book by a senior politician from Angela Merkel’s party dismissing her open-door policy on immigrants as a “failure of the state” is adding to pressure on the German chancellor, amid growing division in Europe over the migration crisis.

The book, by Jens Spahn, 35, a senior minister and member of the Christian Democratic Union’s ruling council, describes the influx of migrants into Germany — expected to reach 1m by the end of this year — as “the biggest social experiment in decades.

“The border cannot be secured, law cannot be enforced and thousands of asylum applications cannot be processed,” writes Spahn, who has become a regular on talk shows since the book appeared.

Over 300,000 people are now unregistered in Germany and no one knows where they came from and where they are

British people MUST be housed before the newcomers.

Middle-class migrants are paying up to £10,000 a head to be smuggled into the UK by speedboat, yacht and light aircraft, investigators have told the Telegraph.

Calais police believe Albanian gangs controlling Europe's multi-million pound trafficking industry are "diversifying" routes into England after security was increased at ferry ports and the Eurotunnel network.

There've never been enough staff. It's Government neglect to prioritise protecting borders during such a huge crisis. Just as it is in Calais, Dover and any other port. . None of them have sufficient staff but protecting borders isn't most Governments' main concern. They fear the delays and damage to commerce and profits if they did full security checks.
Instead we have drivers chiefly left to deal with France's illegal immigrants and all that entails including delays and Company's are losing a fortune.
How many illegals would there be trying to do this if they knew they'd be caught? Just as sending them straight back to France or wherever would put them off trying.
The asylum seekers in Harwich should be returned to Holland or the first country they entered in Europe.

It's a complete non starter, unless anyone is masochistic enough to want to bankrupt themselves and the nation and at record breaking speed. Nor could it ever close the door on terrorists.
There's been a response from the Government.

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/107516
The UK government has no intention of closing Britain’s borders, as this would create more problems than it would solve. The UK remains ‘open for business’ for legitimate travellers and trade. However, we continue to operate our borders securely and to enforce our immigration laws. This includes carrying out 100% checks on arriving passengers in order to identify any criminal, security and immigration concerns. Given recent events in Paris, Border Force has intensified checks on people, goods and vehicles entering the UK from the near continent and elsewhere, undertaking additional and targeted security checks against passengers and vehicles travelling to France via both maritime and rail ports and a number of airports across the country.
    Complete with porkies of course.

Central govt is paying for the first year then the local council.
This is why many councils have refused. They appreciate they have their own local population to look after first.
These families will most probably not return and will be needing schooling, housing, healthcare and aid for LIFE.

Greece - Government unveils plan to set up five hotspots
Only days after requesting European Union help in tackling the ongoing migrant and refugee crisis, the Greek government has unveiled plans to set up five so-called hotspots to register and identify arrivals.

The decision, which was published early Saturday in the Government Gazette, foresees the creation of screening centers on the eastern Aegean islands of Chios, Kos, Leros, Samos and Lesvos.
