Someone posted a brilliant theory in the episode thread, that it is the same TARDIS Gallifrey splinter Clara suggested to the First Doctor, as she was not actually a splinter, but the real Clara coming back to face her death.

I really love that idea but wouldn't she have to go back to the same time if she went back to when the First Doctor ran away she would be billions of years early.
I assumed it was a more modern TARDIS they did say when he stole it it was already pretty much a antique so even more why would it still be around at the end of time?

Well it was brand new when the Doctor and Clara stole it in Hell Bent. By the time Clara gives it to the First Doctor, it would have been an antique...from the future.
As for the billions of years discrepancy, perhaps she just explained to the Time Lords who were around at the time where they needed to send her.
I actually would have preferred it if the Doctor had kept the new TARDIS instead of the old one. But I guess that would mess up the blue box merchandising.
Blimey, that looked a lot better than the Tardis ever did in Classic Who. It was kinda cool, whereas the Classic Who Tardis just looked cheap.
You do realise that Classic Who operated on a shoe-string budget in the 1960's, and even if Doctor Who was big budget in the 1960's production values were not as advanced as they are today?
I thought the whole thing with the chameleon circuit breaking was that the tardis she is flying about in will eventually be the one that she then passes down to the first doctor

And it would explain why the Tardis didn't like her at first. "Oh not her again!"

How did she get back to the right place to go back to trap street though?
Was it the Tardis set that they used for An Adventure in Space and Time? Or did they build a new one.
I don't know, that console is in the Doctor Who Experience. Did they remove it in August for filming, as that might have given away a few spoilers for the episode!
I loves that retro TARDIS look, and the proper Classic noises. And the round things
Is that why they could afford to pay Bill Hartnell a few grand per week?
That was almost David Tennant money, in its day.
Hartnell wasn't paid thousands per week - his salary was actually around £300 per week, still big money in 1965, and the equivalent of around £4,000 per week today.
Nonetheless, Hartnell's salary was a significant part of the budget when the total cost of first Doctor stories varied between £2,000-£3,000 per episode, sometimes a bit more.
By contrast it was suggested that the 2005 series cost £1 million per episode...

I am a huge fan of the classic TARDIS. But whilst I did love seeing it on screen again, I actually found (this time around) that whole walls of lit roundels were a bit hard on the eyes, which I never did in the old days. Perhaps it was seeing it in HD or perhaps it was just lit more harshly.
That said, it was still lovely to see. But I do think they've got the TARDIS interior right as it is. Its certainly my favourite interior since the show returned in 2005.

I agree with this actually, it was awesome seeing it back in the show in all it's glory but I must agree the lighting did seem a bit strange and I wasn't watching it in HD.
I'm open to correction here(having not rewatched it) but didn't it have the big fault locator area from the early Hartnell stories?
As for the Classic Console Room looking cheap, what did you expect? Compared to modern day standards, as with most of Classic Who, most things look cheap and outdated. Back then I bet most viewers thought it was cutting edge stuff.
You also need to remember the context of the time the show was made and the sources available back then.

I don't think it matters what time she re-enters the matrix.. As it sees the future and past and all that good stuff.
I've always thought Capaldi suits that brilliant white sci-fi look more than the muted tones of the current era.
Glad the Doctor didn't keep that TARDIS though. It would have been too much if he had ditched the 'wife'
I would like to see a new 'desktop' for the new series. Something along the simple classic lines.
I think the whole show needs to brighten up a little. More ABBA less Leonard Cohen.

It was the console from An Adventure in Space and Time (painted white, from the slightly green version that appeared in that), but the rest was new. Edward Russell confirmed this in a Tweet.

There is NO WAY it was 1 million per episode. That's what star trek next generation got.

Plus it had a dodgy chameleon circuit...
Well you never know the Doctor might change it to look like that again!
I think watch this space for next year.

i was wondering the same thing

How much does The Doctor / Capaldi today get?
Dunno, but I suspect it's a teeny bit more than £300 per week!! ;-)
