In 20 parts, part 1 and 2 tonight 20:30
The Mystery of Edwin Drood they did a few years back was very good, don't know if that's been repeated.
Some of the characters were so good some of us would have accepted a spin off series based on them alone.

Drama set within the fictional realms of Charles Dickens' critically acclaimed novels, bringing together some of his most iconic characters as their lives intertwine in 19th-century London.

It's moving to Wed (8.30) and Thurs (8.00) from Jan 6th. I wonder if those will be the timeslots until the end of its run ?

For the Dickens's fans, part of the fun will be in guessing which character is which and how they connect to eachh other.

Ah, only 10 minutes in and we have the obligatory ethnic non- Dickensian character.

It's beautiful to look at if nothing else, snowy Victorian London just screams Christmas.

The only real funny bit I find about CD's works were some of the names.

You can point out the gags at the half time interval between pt 1 and pt 2, I haven't spotted any funnies at all.

No,I didn't think it was a comedy but I'm reminded of a Dickens spoof on a year ot two ago, stuffed with well-known 'faces'. What was it called? Something like Old Curiosity Shop of Horrors.

Not liking it which is a shame :(

Was hoping it would be like the TV show Penny Dreadful but with Dickens characters!

On far too early to be like Penny Dreadful.

I'm enjoying it - period drama with a twist (no pun intended!)

Was that not staring the Peep Show guys ?

Quite good as I recall, if if there's one genre that needs a good a damn good spoofing it's Dickens' boody awful, sentimental novels.

I wanted to try it but I don't know who is who the most time. It's not bad, but not really good.

Just think of it as a prequel to all the Dickens novels and everything set in the same universe. But yes would probably make better viewing if you had a good knowledge of the books to start with and knew who was who.

Mmm, getting an idea of how Ms. Havisham became so bitter and twisted...

I think you're not supposed to until they mention them by name (the Miss Haversham reveal for example).

A difficult thing to write, pitching this at people who know the novels very well and people who have only a passing knowledge of them. I think they're doing a good job so far.

Miss Havisham? The young man who came to her rescue must be the one who ditched her on her wedding day.

The man who was killed at the end was Scrooge's partner. He appeared as a ghost in the book. Was he killed by Bill Sykes in this episode?

    It's a bit confusing.
