Stan Lee's Lucky Man

i didn't see a thread on this but it starts this Friday at 9pm. Apparenlty it's been created by Sky in the UK from an idea by Stan Lee and stars James Nesbitt as a cop who gets given a bracelet (which he can't take off) that gives him the power of luck:

There are number of different short promos you can download from Sky On Demand.

Looks interesting :)

    I love James Nesbitt.

Is it intended for renewal? or is it a one off show?

I like the premise. It looks very promising with a lot of potential for what could be done with stories.

Episode One is on Top Picks in the On Demand section right now. Anyone seen it yet? Sounds really good. Hope it will not be disappointing,

I hope they use that Verve song as it's theme tune or end credits.

Looking forward to this, just wish they'd cast someone other than Nesbitt.

I wonder who's really written it, before Stan 'Ego' Lee stuck his name on it?

First episode was spot on...from pacing down to intrigue, hope it continues in the same vain.

What's your anger here over? I don't think Lee claims to be anything other than the creator (in other words the person who came up with the concept and basic outline).

It's just branding that his name is on it. Don't you think his name has value to draw viewers?

Oh and the answer is Neil Biswas. Who IS acknowledged as the show co-creator.

How did this project come about? How does one get to work on a idea dreamed up by Stan Lee?

I basically got an email from my agent saying that there was this Stan Lee project that Carnival had, an idea about luck, and would I be interested in reading it. Stan Lee was a massive hero of mine when I was growing up – I read a lot of comics and was very into the idea of working in that industry.

I read it ,and it was basically just a one pager, setting out the idea, setting out a very simple form of the idea of this character – Harry Clayton – a homicide detective in London. He's a compulsive gambler who's falling apart – his family have left him, he's losing a lot of his personal life, his professional life is under threat as well. And he's suddenly given a lucky charm one night and it changes his luck.

But yet at the same time, there's a price to pay. The more he uses it, he starts to realize there is bad luck as well as good luck. And that all kind of came from Stan Lee.

    In what form?

It was just a page. A page from Stan Lee.

So yes, Lee did very little. It could have been 5 minutes of his time. But they're using him (for the appeal of his name to fans) more than he's using them.

Gave it a try, not for me. Nesbit doesn't do it for me.

So who understood what Baldy mean? No not a bald person but in Northern Ireland means haven't got a clue:D

I don't mind Nesbitt he was brilliant in the BBC series last year. I will continue to watch.

Danger with such a premise is if luck regularly becomes convenience, an easy get out of jail card for any tricky situation that would otherwise require more detailed writing. Happy to keep watching for now though.

Apparently it got 600k for it's premiere. I don't know whether that is good or not. But Critical averaged about 300k-400k per episode and got axed.

Was alright, not sure I'd watch all 10 episodes though. Interesting premise let down slightly by some slightly unconvincing acting.

I have to say I never quite understand a show where they end on a cliffhanger and then clearly show the character out of danger in the "next time on..." precis of the next episode.

It was bog-standard police-procedural with a tiny fantasy element. I shan't waste my time watching it again. >:(

This show is apparently slated for a 10 episode season. The theme of the show (controlling luck) is intriguing and has certainly piqued my interest. I shall contnue watching.

Love it or hate it, it has certainly showcased the London skyline in all its splendour. Nice shots of Canary Wharf and Chinatown.

Don't think it's a bog-standard cop show, with a case a week....unless I missed the the outcome of the murders...in the first episode. For me, it's an interesting twist on your normal cop show, very American in style, but with London as the backdrop, looking amazing.
