Rita Ora is a media ****. She's literally released no music yet judging on a music talent show? Sorry I don't worship these overrated celebs. Little Mix? Woop dee doo, Black Magic is catchy but they didn't write it. I listen to a lot of catchy music, written by the artists singing it, so I'm hardly gonna bow down to Little Mix. Beyonce? She is over exposed and thinks highly of herself. You have to realise people are bored of seeing her everywhere.
No one is asking you to worship any one.
I think you mean some people are bored of seeing Beyonce. Equally there are many who are enraptured by her. 'Formation' at the Superbowl was a bold step in creative terms, being a public cultural and political statement. Beyonce has also produced two albums and accompanying videos with little regard for single success. Let's see how many follow her down these paths.
Music is an expressive as well as a creative art form and Musicanship is also about performance as well as composition. Artistry and musicianship aren't simply about writing your own music. E.g. I've seen and heard Florence live (ugh, enough said although maybe she isn't always awful live? ).
Being original is rather important in this regard. I do like Alanis but you don't mention Julia Holter, easily the most original female singer/songwriter around at the moment. And no Bjork on the list? I like some on the list, I like others including Beyonce.
I am just proving a point that Beyonce etc are not that talented and I am giving examples of female artists that are more talented. If you want to argue that Beyonce is more talented than those that I mentioned I am all up for hearing why and debating the matter.
I've just given you a couple of reasons why Beyonce is a talented artist. What do you mean by talent?
Yes but Taylor York is very much as big a part as Hayley now, He co-writes everything.
So I can't compare Rita Ora to Rae Morris? Ok so I can't compare Leicester City to Accrington Stanley? I can't compare PG Tips to Tetley? I can't compare Roger Federer to Tim Henman? Everything can be compared.
Unfortunately Valerie is one of my most hated songs and she was on that. I am not gonna diss her but find her music a bit boring. Florence puts out exciting music.
It doesn't matter what you think about Amy's music or indeed, Amy.
You titled the thread the 10 greatest female artists. It's simply about justifying your choices not about what you like. I'm saying Amy is more important than any on your list because she wrote her own music, developed her own style, is a more influential artist on other artists, was honest in her writing and about her influences, was a brilliant interpretative and expressive performer, honoured her musical predecessors, will be talked about and listened to for years to come......
There was some very well produced music in the 80's.
Some of the best produced and creative music was in the 60s it so happens.....popular music has a memory. Perhaps the most important female in popular music history is Sister Rosetta Tharpe from even earlier...she didn't write all her own music but she did almost single handedly invented rock music because of her playing style. Beat that.
No one is asking you to worship any one.

You mean a video for every song on the album? Fall Out Boy did that in 2013.
The Superbowl was typical Beyonce, shaking her ass. Give her an acoustic guitar and she won't know what to do with it. Music starts in the most organic simple way, this is the part Beyonce isn't around for, she arrives at the end product.
Have not heard Julia Holter but will certainly give her a listen.
So you're saying Beyonce is merely a performer? Then she isn't a complete artist. Beyonce relies heavily on other people, How many people are involved on her records?
How many people were involved on the last 1975 record? 6 people, the band, producer and engineer.
Beyonce gets all the credit. She's a business model, a brand, more so than an artist.
Florence doesn't sing to backing tracks, she is authentic. Rawness is part of the beauty. Singiing doesn't have to be pitch perfect to be moving.
You mean a video for every song on the album? Fall Out Boy did that in 2013.
Brian Eno put out an entire video installation for his 1985 album 'Thursday Afternoon' but don't tell anyone. Oh, and Eno is one one the most influential artists, producers, creators in pop history but describes himself as a non-musician.

I guess you missed the Black Panther references then? Too busy looking at Beyonce's ass?

No, that music is an expressive art form and performance is an integral part of the production of pop music.
What does it matter that the music is a collaboration? So was the 1975 record even by your own estimation. Joy Division's 'Unknown Pleasures' is a collaboration between the band and Martin Rushent. That's how much pop music gets produced. There's nothing wrong with that.
Florence doesn't sing to backing tracks, she is authentic. Rawness is part of the beauty. Singiing doesn't have to be pitch perfect to be moving.
Never said it did. I know all about what emotion means in performance. I've seen Van Morrison since the 70s. Van believes quite rightly that only in performance does music actually have meaning...'when the healing has begun' as he would put it.
And what do you know about what Beyoncé thinks or feels?
Pop music is all about the tension between the commercial and the artistic. Even with Florence.
Can't comment on Happy Rhodes and Timi Yuro because I've never heard of them.
The former's first three albums were sublime and the rest very good although the cappuccino songs didn't really do it for me. I'm assuming by greatest we don't mean best selling?
the latter... yep, i'm pushing it a bit there but that was a personal indulgence as her voice evokes more emotion than a bereft Jewish wife at her husbands dispatch.

I have a recommendation for you too! Check out this Canadian band called White Lung who have a new album called Paradise. It's pop flavored punk with great polished production values. I think you will like it if you like Paramore.
Thanks for the recommendation
White Lung is brilliant. Particularly Paradise. I have played it tons over the last few weeks. They are a lot more punk and hardcore than I was expecting. The singer sounds like Courtney Love and also a bit like Lady Gaga funnily enough.
Paradise is a very short hard hitting addictive album.
With so many threads on the likes of Beyonce and other such nonsense I thought I'd be controversial and talk about female artists that are actually good:
Tori Amos
Would love to see Queen B Beyonce try and compose a song like Cornflake Girl lol.
Lissie
Listen to Shameless and then let me know how boring Adele can touch that.
Grimes
Everything done on her records is by herself. That's what you call artistry. Take note Beyonce. Oh and her songs are catchier than Beyonce's too
Fiona Apple
Needs no introduction really. At age 19 she was putting out Tidal. What was Beyonce doing at 19? Singing some generic RnB tune written by a suit,
Hayley Williams (Paramore)
Yes kids you don't have to **** yourself out to make it big.
Rae Morris
Ellie Goulding had potential, then Rae Morris came along and showed her how it's done. Now Ellie's gone down the pan.
Sky Ferreira
This girl has got swag and the tunes to boot.
Halsey
As above, edgy pop.
Alanis Morissette
Once again at 19 she was putting out Jagged Little Pill. A far more important album than anything by Adele.
Florence Welch
While Lady Gaga tries to be mysterious and intellectual (and fails miserably) Florence doesn't try to be anything but herself, and no one even dares attempt mimick her because they can't reach that level.
I think I would appreciate your views more if you actually talked about their strengths and achievements rather than make vague comparisons to chart-successful artists.
