It's that time of year again when NBC put together a musical. This year it is Hairspray

Looking forward to this. I loved last year's The Wiz.
ITV2 are airing it December 9th.

I’ll be watching this one with the wife... having said that I thought the Greece one very enjoyable.
It’s good that ITV2 are airing it just 2 days after the US (no doubt with repeats over the Christmas period).
Wasn’t it this time last year ITV did their own, with The Sound of Music? I haven’t heard of them doing another this year, and they seem to by pushing Hairspray Live on ITV2 quite a lot, so maybe they’ve just decided to stick with a US import, but boost its profile a bit.
I wasn't keen on the grease one. The production style bugged me. In fact, out of all the US live musicals, i have only ever liked The Wiz. But i am confident about this one due to the cast. Most of them all come from musical theatre backgrounds ( the guy who is playinh Edna actually won a tony for his work on hairspray a few years ago) so they haven't just cast a bunch of people for name sake.
I do wonder though, will the Van Tussle's get their redemption at the end, or will they remain out of You Can't Stop the Beat as they do in the film?
This may answer that for you....spoiler alert;-)

Travolta will be a tough act to follow for me. Looking forward to it.
As for the Edna's... well Travolta did a good job, and Harvey is no slouch - should be fun.
BTW I saw Brian Conoly in the role - just as good.
Oh he was.:)
Already been a few cock ups with the lead actress's mic.
Production is gorgeous though.

and some of the casting and performances is even better than the movie. The movie was too guilty of stunt casting.
But boy was I disappointed in YCSTB
That dialogue right in between it before Edna's and Maybelle's solos. Why? It just ruined it, it got hype, then died down, then expect to be all hype again.
Dissapointed in that really, is my favourite song as well
Also all the OB's to different places and the annoying host..
There were a lot of advertisements. I think there were 11 breaks - probably less than what would air during a typical evening in prime time.
I think the OB's were done to extend the time of the broadcast and they had connection to the show such as Baltimore (my hometown and doesn't need explanation), Houston (the actress was from there), Atlanta (I think the director was from there and was a fundraiser) and Philadelphia (where a national dance show was based).
Early this week they sent out a notice telling stations that the production was scheduled to air from 8-10:55pm. They were going to give the time back to affiliates to do what they want. Still the show came in a minute short.
It was a good show.
Did anyone who watched it spot Ricky Lake?
Look forward to seeing the whole thing.
I see they've announced next year's show as "Bye Bye Birdie" with J-Lo!:o That'll be interesting.
The only thing that ruined it was the ridiculous interludes from the random presenter-Not needed and best suited to a backstage show imo but otherwise really entertaining
I wasn't keen on that either. NBC got the idea from FOX's live version of Grease as they had something similar. I am not interested in what goes on backstage. Well i am but not during the actual show. I think it's ruins the focus and takes you out of the story too much through doing that.
In what way was it based on 10 minutes?
Think I'll stick to seeing my theatre live on stage!
