Darling is getting talked over quite a bit by the host, and he seems nervous, stumbling over his words. Picking up a bit now though.

Darling had better be careful. He's at risk of coming across as lecturing the audience

Darling really isn't a natural public debater, bur he does come across as far more trustworthy

He could hardly come across as less trustworthy, tbh.

    No it wouldn't

So you think the UK government should sign up for a currency union with a foreign country without a referendum? It's no different to signing up for the Euro.

Why oh why is this idiot obsessed with
"it's not any one countries pound, it's an internationally used currency, we can have it if we want"
So is the dollar but you can bet your life on the USA telling us where to get off if we tried to use it.
He needs to be told once and for all in no uncertain terms he cannot have the pound.
And why has nobody ever publicly asked him, when he kicks out the submarines how is he going to justify the thousands and thousands of jobs that will go with it.
Finally and seriously are the Scots so blind, there will never ever ever be shiny happy rich no bad news.
There is always a downside to everything but on planet Salmond all he says is you will be richer, you will be better off, you will have everything.
Wake up people the mans a liar end of.

Salmond still putting all his eggs into one basket, it seems RE: currency.

The "yes" supporters are a lot more vigorous than the "no" ones.

I wonder if Salmond will unfurl a Saltire flag from his jacket pocket at the end of this debate :D

Actually, several countries do use the dollar without any formal agreement but they have no say in how the currency is used. Does Scotland really want to be another Panama?

I'm in two minds about independence.

I'd love the Scots to get it. But if they do, it's game over for labour in England.

And they go any vague hope of my earning a 'living wage'.....

Scottish votes have only once had an effect on the outcome of a general election so it is not necessarily game over for Labour

Is Salmond totally thick? Does he really think if they walk off without the debt the UK will give Scotland ANY of the assets?

No-one has ever said they can't use the pound. Ever. The issue has always be a CU.

There is barely any difference between Alex Salmond and a dodgy car salesman.

I cringed, but then again I did when Salmond used 'messages' instead of 'shopping'!

It's the BBC what do you expect

Eh then it would be unlikely to be a yes biased audience.

Best idea i have heard yet, a huge canal between us, do what Hadrian didn't.
Before all this kicked off i wasn't bothered now the more i hear i want it to happen just so he can come back with his tail between his legs when it's all going wrong.
    Because it will.

Salmond is selling Scotland the emperors new clothes.

If there is a 'Yes' vote I wish I was negotiating for the rest of the UK. I'd squeeze Scotland until the pips squeaked.
