I think I know Made In England, I feel like claiming my £5 ;-)

All said on a few radio forums in a similar way(tone and words used.

    And fantasy schedule too.

You so hate Sundays on that station...

And remember just how many posts this character wrote under various guises on various boards calling for "dead wood" Ed Stewart to be "axed". Only to now be asking for his return......

Oh, how silly of me. I forgot that somebody cannot have a change of opinion about someone.

I am not a huge fan of Sundays on Radio 2 but i respect those who do enjoy the shows. I listen again through the website to stuff i have missed during the week and that works well.
I do feel that one or two shows could move to other networks such as Radio 3 and Radio 4 but no doubt loyal fans would object. I seem to remember that "sounds of Jazz" with Peter Clayton started on R1 then moved to R2 and ended up on R3. So their is precedence.
There have been many threads asking for more 60'S AND 70'S on R2 to cater for the older listener. A Sunday show with Tony Blackburn would really add to the appeal of R2. Ironing would become a pleasure:)

The way I see it is that Radio 2 is there to cater for many different tastes in music. I can't stand most of the Sunday output but I imagine that there are many that look forward to these programmes. I work most Sundays so its not a problem for me, if I'm home then I'll most likely turn on 6 Music instead.
If in the future I would like to listen to the Sunday programmes then I hope they would still be there. Years ago I would never have thought about listening to Mike Harding's folk music programme whereas now I'll make a point of listening.

6 Music is a prime example of what Radio 2 should sound like. I am not suggesting that Radio 2 becomes a 24/7 pop station; the specialist programming from 6 Music would fit in very well on Radio 2.

Tony Blackburn would also be great presenting Pick of the Pops! As for ironing, surely Johnnie Walker could keep you in good spirits?! :D

Digby Fairweather used to present a Saturday night jazz show on Radio 2 until it was axed in 1998 in favour of the excellent Bob Harris. As a result, Digby Fairweather was moved to Radio 3.

Is there any need to shout?

Is there any need for you to keep changing your user name and posting the same nonsense over and over and over and ...........................

Why not just listen to 6music then. Why the obsession with R2.

I don't think it's a change of user name as such - more like a new one after a banning.

Is there any need for you to keep posting off-topic nonsense like this? Perhaps I should alert the Admin staff?

If you don't like a particular topic then do not read them or reply. Leave them for those who do. Simple.

6 Music is Radio 2's sister station although it does also overlap with Radio 1.

    Re:Made in England
Who else finds BBC Radio 2 a complete no-go zone on a Sunday? The only Sunday Radio 2 presenter I do like is Johnnie Walker. I occasionally tune into Pick of the Pops - only when the programme isn't featuring the damn 60s and 70s.

Sunday Love Songs has been done to death. How about axing it and replacing with Ed Stewart hosting a general request show?

I'm looking forward to the arrival of Michael Ball to Sunday mornings. Hopefully, he will feature a much better playlist. It's about time those depressing Frank Sinatra and jazz ballads were laid to rest.

As for Elaine Paige, no thanks. She's the equivalent to the dire Sarah Kennedy. Why on earth Lesley Douglas brought Paige to Radio 2 is beyond me. She's been on Radio 2 since September 2004 yet still sounds amateurish and unprofessional. I also think stage and screen should be broadcast in the evening, not on a Sunday lunchtime.

Radio 2 from 6.30pm Sundays seriously scrapes the bottom of the barrel. Melodies for You, Sunday Half Hour, Russell Davies, Malcolm Laycock and David Jacobs are the reasons why Sunday night Radio 2 is so boring, depressing and prehistoric. In fact, it's the worst night of the week.

There is certainly a lot of room for improvement for Sunday Radio 2, especially in the evenings.

I understand you feelings, but have you stopped to think, Radio Two was created for the easy listening listener. The are scores of stations playing 70's and 80's stuff. Try Big L International if you want more pop tunes across the years. They was the big offshore radio station in the 60's Radio London. If not let those that enjoy lighter music have one day of there kind of music from the BBC.

Indeed, Radio 2 was created from the Light Programme - but that was 40 years ago. Times have changed since then - and so has Radio 2.

I think Big L is due to cease broadcasting.

Do we assume then that any film made more than 40 years ago should never be seen again. Laurel and Hardy still make people laugh and their films are nearly twice as old:cry:

Of course not; such classics are screened on Sky Movies Classics, TCM, etc - channels dedicated to classic film. Therefore, the BBC should launch a digital station dedicated to easy listening, light music and jazz.

...and plenty of them are still on BBC1 AND 2 ITV1 C4 and 5.

Where everyone can watch them if they want

Not all the time they're not. The odd crackly black and white film is screened here and there. Weekends are mostly full of sport, music or reality TV shows.

and David Jacobs is only on for 2 hours a week....
There is plenty of variety on tv so why not Radio2. As plenty of others have told you "if you don't like go somewhere else or listen again to something you missed"

David Jacobs is on for an hour a week - and an hour too much in my opinion. I tuned into his grim radio programme last Sunday night and switched off literally moments later. The guy sounds half asleep. I'm not surprised with the rubbish he was playing.

    I'm surprised he's still broadcasting.

That could mean David Hamilton could come back to R2 and maybe Mike Read should do a show too.

And where have I said I am the only listener? If I do not like something on Radio 2 then I have the right to say so.

    Of course you can.

However, do keep in mind the older listeners (70s, 80s, 90s) for whom there are no commercial stations. Surely the BBC should be supplying more programming for them, not less.

Hear hear. I have always maintained that the BBC should launch a digital station for the over 50s. The over 50s are being disenfranchised.

I wish people would stop writing off music, programmes and presenters just because they're old!

Really? it still sounds pretty much like the Light Programme format to me. Some of the LP presenters are still hanging on too. Only thing missing is the shipping forecast in the middle of POTP!!! :D
