Because, as I said, it's the pragmatic approach. Far better to devote less than two square feet to a sand pit hidden away under some bushes, than to keep picking crap off your lettuces.
...and on the minus side they pointlessly kill wild birds and other harmless small creatures they aren't scared of.
Animal loving owners also have ducks, lambs, rabbits, chickens and fish killed to feed them.
That sounds like two more points to add to the anti-dog list as well.
