Very tense and gulping a lot to begin with, but they relaxed a bit as they got on with the job of attacking Amaral. Kate overstepped the mark a bit by referring to "Amaral and his supporters", which caused the reporters to quickly ask whether she was saying there were divisions in the PJ, which she had to backtrack a bit on.

Oh and she referred to Madeleine as "it".

Yes, but its ok, only us internet lunatics appear to have noticed! ;)

I actually forgive her that particular slip of the tongue. I seriously doubt it means anything.

The clip is on this page - can't get it to work on the chronically slow mobile connection I'm on at the mo, but the fund bit comes after about 6 minutes:

    http://www.channel4.com/news/articles/arts_entertainment/books/madeleine+mccannaposs+parents+win+book+battle/3548937

    Thanks you. :)

Is the McCann full press conference available online anywhere?

    I know.

Do you ever wonder whether that level of emotional involvement is excessive? Or that it might get in the way of having a balanced view on the case?

Now I might think you were being rude Cath01 , but I know you are not.:)

No I have done very well , being both emotional and unbalanced in my life.:)
Passion is a good emotion ,as is being fair and having dignity and thought for others.
No Cath01 , don't worry about me and my involvement.

I am more concerned , that you never move far from your excessive views.
I feel you are more emotional about Amaral than any view I have.
Nice to be able to discuss this with you Cath01.:)

Don't know, but Joana Morais sometimes puts this kind of thing up a day or two later.

In the meantime, I'm off to bed. Goodnight folks. :)

It was a genuine question, and a generic one. Strong feelings usually interfere with good judgement.

I don't like Amaral, that is for sure. However I think there is a reasonable evidence base for that judgement.

And I don't actually hate him. You won't find me anywhere ever writing whole posts of 'feelings' about him, replete with an excess of CAPS LOCK and exclamation marks. You got to admit, we get a fair few posts like that on the thread about the Mccanns...

Yes the press call was obviously stage managed, as you would expect on home territory. Initially they were very subdued, not looking as though they had just won a court battle, but again that may have been deliberate. I do think Mrs.McCann's clothes were chosen deliberately as part of the overall management.

I thought they did offer implied criticism of the Uk police, the Home Office, and of course Amaral. Although they did seem to have a higher regard for Stuart Prior and Rebelo.

They settled and accepted questions for the full time, and although controlled, it was a lengthy session.

I felt quite shocked by Mrs. McCann. Her face has changed considerably. The last few weeks have had a marked impact imo. She speaks with conviction and appears to completely believe in everything she is saying.

Well there was that time you accused me of trying to 'distract' from 'evidence' by talking about the manner in which it was given, and that time you said I was more concerned with defending people's reputations than in the truth, and, well, I won't go on, except to mention how you keep saying that Rainbow's report told the police to investigate the Mccanns for homicide where there's absolutely no evidence that's actually what he said... but yes, always politely. :D

Perhaps they should use these high powered lawyers to find a way to open the case. There must be a way. Surely.

I was struck by Clarence's appearance. Is he ill?
And his spinning made me feel quite ill. Now the lawyers are being paid by the newspaper payouts not donations. Well ok then, but not sure that's what the Tapas members said on the court steps

But what if it stops future witnesses coming forward because they can't be protected from media intrusion? Even Mr Smith has had to resort to solicitors to protect himself.

I agree with the way the UK police work in that the files are kept private and not given out for public consumption.

The information was released as part of the archiving process. I don't suppose documents after that time would be released as a matter of course.
Presumably the file of 'unfollowed up' evidence was not in the public domain.

They aren't 'most people' they are a small bunch of people who, for reasons probably best known to their psychiatrists, dedicate their lives to vilifying and persecuting two people against whom there is no evidence. They openly 'organise' these spam attacks on their nasty little forums, in between making threats against the family.

    Pot, kettle, black eh Cath?

You it seems can defame the Portugese police at will - but the rest of us all need psychiatrists.

Strange way of thinking. Very Team McCann.

I think lots of people do still believe the spin. I know loads of people who think the McCanns are entirely innocent of anything other than the neglect issue, that they have cooperated fully with the police, and that the police are corrupt and have let them down.

Yeah, there are still gullible people everywhere.
