Russell Tovey's Banished opens with 3.4 million on BBC Two
BBC Two's new drama Banished launched with over 3 million viewers on Thursday evening, overnight data reveals.
The Russell Tovey series attracted an average 3.40m (16.2%) at 9pm. Earlier, The Great British Sewing Bee appealed to 2.96m (14.0%) at 8pm, while Let's Play Darts for Comic Relief amused 1.48m (8.5%) at 10pm.
BBC One's DIY SOS was the most-watched programme on Thursday outside soaps with 3.64m (17.2%) at 8pm. The People's Strictly was seen by 3.07m (14.6%) at 9pm, while Question Time brought in 2.39m (24.3%) at 10.35pm.
On ITV, The Nation's Favourite 70s Number One entertained 2.86m (13.5%) at 8.30pm (215,000/1.3% on +1).
Channel 4's Supervet gathered 1.49m (7.0%) at 8pm (222k/1.1%), followed by the latest Cucumber with 632k (3.0%) at 9pm.
On Channel 5, Britain's Worst Crimes was seen by 462k (2.2%) at 8pm, while Britain's Biggest Primary School intrigued 571k (2.7%) at 9pm. The Mentalist thrilled 674k (4.2%) at 10pm.
ITV2's Keith Lemon Sketch Show tickled 606k (3.5%) at 10pm. On Sky1, Arrow attracted 423k (2.0%) at 8pm, while Sky Atlantic's Fortitude brought in 390k (1.9%) at 9pm.
Anyone would think that The Times and The Daily Mail had connections to rival tv companies.:D
I do find it odd that two costumers are on at the same time not forgetting Jonathan Strange, which was trailed recently.
I think Banished will have finished (last episode - April 16th) by the time Jonathan Strange airs, it had a cast and crew screening last night but the BFI one isn't until April 13th, so it won't be airing until after then. It's also possible Jonathan Strange won't start until 17th May, which is when the Sunday slot frees up, the week after the Baftas, but Mondays are just as likely.
And thus the Daily Mail is wrong again for the second time today, they on many occasions, as often as they could actually claimed that because rating had dropped a bit from the first episode it was ratings and critical disaster.
Re: Cheltenham next week. Racing UK has sent me a promotional flyer with Jeremy Kyle's ugly mug on it with the tag line: "How much of a real racing fan are you?" "Real racing fans watch the festival on Racing UK" it goes on to say.
Best advert for C4 Racing I've ever seen. Straight in the shredder.
The trailers for Gotham say that the first week it comes back its a double ep so maybe not.
This is the week after. Judging by the provisional scheduling they will definitely play a series out of Gotham as opposed to a film so seems likely to be POI. Just hope it's not too late for the show in the UK.
Monday 23rd March
21.00 Gotham (S) (AD) (HD)
Action-packed drama series set in pre-Batman Gotham City. In this episode... (See Feature) 22.00 TBA
23.00 TBA
01.00 SuperCasino

There are rumours Kyle will front C4's Grand National coverage because Clare Balding has opted to work on the Boat Race for the BBC that day. She clearly knows where her future lies.......
Also, both showing of Neighbours were Channel 5's top rated shows last night, with the lunchtime episode almost beating the teatime one!
'Neighbours achieved its highest lunchtime rating of the year so far, rising to 768k (11.1%) at 1.45pm on Channel 5 as Terese's brother arrived in Erinsborough. 784k (5.4%) watched the teatime airing at 5.30pm, which was Channel 5's top-rated programme of the day.'

Clearly the upcoming 30th anniversary has boosted Neighbours.
Given Empire's rise in the ratings in the US, it's surprising no one has picked it up yet.
Similar in that they are costume dramas. The Poldark trailer looked good to me. I'll certainly be watching.
In the shop where I work, I didn't need to wonder whether one of our regular elderly ladies will be watching Poldark. The Radio Times has a rather (excuse me, I'm a bloke so don't read anything into this) seductive picture of a sickeningly handsome Aidan Turner on the cover. The customer bought the RT and as she placed the magazine down she gleefully exclaimed:
"Phwoarrr!!! If he aint enough to get us ole gals to watch Poldark, nothing is!!"
Interesting commissioning news from ITV that no-one else seems to have picked up on. LBC's James O'Brien is to get his own lunchtime talk show. It's only 10 episodes but if it's a success, I suppose they will commission more.

It made me roar with laughter as she's about 80!
That's funny!
There does seem to be a lot of interest surrounding Poldark alomg with mainly positive reviews. I think it's going to be big.

I wonder if it could be on at Easter?

I had been expecting it to start on Easter Monday, but the BFI screening suggests otherwise.
Low for EastEnders, it's lost 4m compared to 2 weeks ago, not great at all
You'd have expected some of those extra viewers to stick around longer than they did.
530,000 / 2.7% (inc +1).
Not wonderful, but I imagine it has an attractive male demographic for advertisers.
I noticed you missed out ED figure that was below 6mil...that's even worse 😮

In multichannel news, Men in Black 3 scored an excellent 761k (4.3%) for Film4, comfortably winning its slot.

That's a really impressive consolidated figure for 'Wolf Hall'.
The 28day figure will be interesting.:)

I wonder if they'll play it out of Gotham on Mondays at 10pm as I suggested. Some double that will be !!

You could've used it as toilet paper.

Completely unexpected and refreshing.
