Which came first - Carrot or Silk?

(Jasper Carrot's Golden Balls or Robert Kilroy Silk's Shaft)

I have been watching repeats of the Daytime version of 'The People Versus' on Challenge, really enjoying it and missed it when it finished...

I can remember the initial evening version with live audience. On Challenge at 2am they have the first series of daytime... then at 10am it is later on daytime episodes with the tweaked rules and audience. off topic but does anyone know if it is a real audience or fake ? It has laughter at certain bits and oohs and ahhs etc.

Challenge 10am by the way for the ones with audience.

Dr Quinn Medicine Woman, was in a peak time slot but was soon moved as it wasn't delivering and the demographcs were poor. Being sent up by French and Saunders did it no favours.

It ran for 150 episodes over 6 years, don't think you can say it was a flop.

Probably already been mentioned, but my personal favourite has to be "The Murder Game" from around 2002-2003. It had all the potential to be a huge hit, was wonderfully put together, had great contestants and actors, but never took off despite massive initial hype. :(

Also, Survivor had two seasons here that seem long forgotten. The first one didnt even rate that badly, ITV just massively overestimated it because of the freakishly high US ratings its counterpart was getting at the time.

Not a flop in the US though.

My favourite flops are Crime Traveller. Ditched for delivering ratings that todays saturday night shows would die for.

Many of the ITC shows could be seen as flops.
Randall & Hopkirk was never that popular and its repeats in the 70's were thrown away post 11 or in the afternoon.

Anglia refused to show it for a year and ran the whole lot in afternoon slots and post 11pm , even the first run .

Fortunately those who saw it enjoyed it despite the ITV attempts to bury it.

I feel fully vindicated and happy that it's still on more than 40 years later while the crap that ITV ran in peaktime is mostly forgotten junk

Reborn in the USA, and a few years later, Baby One More Time, essentially the same thing but without the coach trip accross America. :p

Oh, and there was that karaoke show from 2008 - the one that tested contestants for singing in-key instead of getting the words right. That was dreadful, though ironically I hold it fondly because it was showing during one of the best nights of my life! :p

live from studio 5 which is unfortunately still running
Trying not to remember it thank you.

Anyone see Outlaws with Phil Daniels. Shown on BBC3 then very late night BBC2 once and never seen again. Great acting and great script so only one series of course. Set in the world of duty solicitors. Possibly Mr Daniels joining Eastenders killed it. Pity. Best work he's done IMHO. DVD available though.

I mentioned Outlaws earlier, the BBC2 run of it wasn't even finished and it was pulled.

That was Phil Davis. Phil Daniels was in an excellent series on BBC about a firm of solicitors called Outlaws. It only got 1 series then he joined Eastenders (a poor decision IMO)

Yes I mentioned this one a few pages back and looked at DVD on Amazon. It was well pricey which I guess shows that it has achieved a bit of cult status. Would love to see this programme return, it could go a long way and totally agree it was an excellent performance from PD

Good point JGray. Anyone know if it was a real audience on the People Versus daytime?

Yes remember Outlaws. Terrific. Right on the money legal wise too which makes a change.

Tycoon, Peter Jones's attempt at an Apprentice clone. I seem to recall it got trimmed from its original hour slot quite early, and the hasty editing made it even worse. Hilarious.

how about 99-1 starring Leslie Grantham

it got figures of around 9m, but new look ITV (Carlton, Westcountry et al) didn't think it rated well enough. Though I remember Mr G saying that Cracker had similar first series ratings and that got recommissioned

what ITV would give for drama only getting 9 million viewers :)

Those weren't bad shows. Didn't Tony Hadley win the first one? And any show with Shakin' Stevens is a hit with me!!:D

    Re Dr Quinn Medicine Woman:
Not a flop in the US though.

And it's still being shown in the UK (step forward ITV3 - it's also been on the Disney Channel). If it had been a real flop it would have been pulled and never shown again to this day, like Night Court and especially the even-more-underrated-in-the-UK Murphy Brown (what was BBC2 thinking, putting that on in The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air's timeslot? And several years after it started on CBS to boot? At least Sky seems to have shown the entire run).

No one has mentioned Bottle Boys, written by Vince Love Thy Neighbour Powell, whose humour hadn't moved on since 1972 and this was 1985 FFS. It had the dubious honour of firstly being very much out of time and embarassing to watch and secondly being shown against Live Aid, when almost no one would be watching. Seemingly it has developed a cult status among comedy anoraks because it is so bad and because no one has dared to make an official DVD.

Has anyone mentioned Elderado? I loved that short lived series. Care of a friend who owns an apartment in a village down in the south of Spain, I can see characters from all those years ago reflected in the now. Except Bunny thank goodness, that was the only wrongness in that show. To anyone that will listen I always say it should be brought back. :D

What was the name of that very slow sitcom aimed at the elderly which had a bit of a following among pensioners 30 years ago where John Mills played a factory worker? It seemed to run for about three series and I think it followed Coronation St on Monday nights, where it would inherit the elderly audience.

And on that note, 'Natural Born Sellers' - which I really enjoyed, especially the episode in Wakefield for the 'Wainscotting' factor of it all.
