But why do they not all go out on the streets when it happens, ok it may be dangerous to be a witness but to be out and vocal as a group like they are now ( without burning down shops I hasten to add ) would be nice to see, it does seem so very one sided.

Climate of fear perhaps, Or maybe because as it's gang members killing each other many don't want to get involved. The folks in these areas are more outraged when unarmed or innocent people get killed esp. by officers and no subsequent charges are brought for it, as there would be if it was anybody else.

Police are trained to shoot for the torso.

That's fair enough, though, isn't it?

I mean, surely if you've actually got grounds to use a lethal weapon it's because you feel the level of threat justifies it and, that being the case, you're already past the point where you need to procrastinate over what might be a suitable level of injury to inflict?

And that's before you consider the practical limitations such as the increased likelihood of missing your target or a stray bullet hitting a bystander.

Because apparently that only happens in the movies, and is borderline impossible to achieve in the real world

Disgraceful decision by the grand jury. Black officers for black neighbourhoods is now the only solution, as black people in America no longer have trust in white officers and too large a number of white cops in America have no respect for black lives.

The Gand Jury makeup was roughly representative of the area ,( 68% white and 24% black) why do you think they came to the decision they did , or is it just disgraceful as it found that the policeman did not deserve to stand trial based on all the evidence they heard and we haven't ?

As for black officers for black areas , do you realise how ridiculous that would be what next ask what colour a caller is in an emergency and sending a colour appropriate officer, perhaps they could have push button options for what heritage the officer has.

Why not not commit a crime, not struggle and not make a grab for a policemans gun.

He was shot six times, don't you think once would have been enough?

I still can't figure out who this Dindu Nuffin character is, and exactly what part he plays in a thuggish black wannabe 'gangsta' thief getting lawfully killed by an officer of the law in fear of his life.

You would have to be there to know that, he was a big guy, he was struggling, the toxicology report showed THC in blood and urine , the jury heard far more than we did and I would respect their decision.

Once you've seen people still on their feet after being mag-dumped you'll realise that this is real life and not the movies.

Apparently he still managed to move forward 25ft whilst being shot, so 1 bullet wasn't enough.

You can't fire one shot and then pause to see if it was enough. By then it would be too late if it wasn't enough, you'd be dead yourself.

Where were the hordes of white rioters smashing up, looting and burning down their own neighbourhoods when Dillon Taylor, an unarmed white(ish) criminal, got gunned down and killed by a black cop?

    Darren Wilson is a liar.

He says he was pummelled by 292lb Michael, with at least 10 hits, yet his injuries are not consistent with his version of events. Best believe that Michael would have caused much more damage than his pics show.

What a handy excuse "he grabbed my gun" is. Darren is full of it IMO.

    Edited.

It's also not comparable, white men are not regularly victimised by the police in America. It still stinks tho.

The residents are not protesting that the policeman was white, they are protesting because Darren shot an unarmed teen, he has not faced proper questioning, and his testimony is poor.

This incident is one in a long line of violent incidents with the police. People are frightened. It's a very real issue.

There are no statistics about how many US black people are killed by police each year. There are supposed to be about 420 US killings by police each year, but there are no police ever charged with crime resulting.

With such tiny numbers, providing statistics on this would be extremely cheap and easy.

Please note people, that what the people in the US are angry about is that the 'trial' of the policeman was done in private, with no prosecution lawyer, no cross examination of witnesses, what the public wanted was a proper trial.

If a person is shot to death and it is known for reasonable certainty who killed the person, then there should be a trial. That would determine whether a crime was committed, what crime was committed if it was a crime, and whether the person is guilty and what the punishment should be if the verdict is guilty. These things should not be determined by a group of people in secret.

In the US in the latest statistical year I have seen, 162,000 cases went to grand juries (only half the states use grand juries). In 11 cases it was decided not to go to trial.

In other words it is well nigh impossible to escape a trial because of a grand jury decision. Apparently that is, unless you are a police man who killed a black man. Then you get off.

There should have been a trial.

You are a scriptwriter for a very cheap budget film company.

Time for the police to restore order. The scum must be brought to heel.

Surely the most biased witness in all of this is the guy who killed him?
Maybe, it's a good thing all the forensic evidence is on his side then, and not on the side of those who said the guy was shot while running away with his hands up.

Michael was stopped for jaywalking not a robbery. It was when the was a call of a robbery that Michael was suspected.

There is a race problem with the police and the black community. Darren Wilsons testimony has holes in it. He was never going to go down.

It's not the same as a regular folk shooting another regular, Darren was a police officer.

I hate when people try to take a very real and sensitive issue, and downplay it. Racism is very real.

Where is the evidence that this was racist? A police man shot a man who was proven to have attacked him. How is his race relevant at all?

I support the decision not to prosecute the officer and I'm not remotely surprised by the looting and rioting that has resulted.

Having shit-stirring, paranoid idiots like Al "race card" Sharpton wading in never helps anything.

    Correct.
Just like the riots we had the summer before last.

I would hope police officers are trained to deal with someone rushing at them with a knife without automatically reaching for their gun. Given the right training, no one should have to die in that situation.

Well how would he know the person wasn't rushing at him with a knife to slit his throat or indeed have a gun himself.
What would you think his training should enable him to do with a big strong young man who had just committed a robbery and was running full pelt at him?
