Does it annoy anyone else when Gay people can't seem to talk about anything other than "The Gay thing".. OK, we know your Gay because you're on a date with another man.. Get over it and have a conversation about something else.
I suspect that's because of the way the show is edited and produced. The show is about relationships and when you have two gay people talking about relationships, it stands to reason their gayness is a part of that and the show focuses on it. In the last show the nerdish man talked quite a lot about being a nerd and how that related to his dating. Others have talked about being parents, about being shy etc
It's fair enough to me. It doesn't stand out and it's not annoying. I like hearing what the participants have to say.

For anyone interested, there's a spin-off series just started on E4 on Monday evenings at 10pm called First Dates Abroad.
This current one was from Australia and follows pretty much the same format as the UK show. However, dates are directed towards the bar rather than escorted and asked to wait there until their date arrives. The date is then pointed to their date already waiting at the bar and they also walk there alone. Maybe this is the Oz way of doing things.

Thanks...a bit late but watching it on the catch up facility.
It's certainly a plus factor - I can do without the cringing, patronising supposedly deep philosophy which is oh so obvious!
I blame Ch4/the production team for Fred's pieces to camera, like Bear Grylls Island.
They've got a collection of them (written for him) and dial up the right one to fit a given date/scenario, part of the reason they seem so clunky.
I bet Fred's one's contradict themselves, but I zone them out and don't listen to the content too closely now.

Who was that guy with the fixed stare? "Let me look into your eyes" might seem like it would be romantic, but done to that level, he looked like a serial killer staring into her soul. She seemed quite effervescent in her intro bit, but looked a bit subdued under his frankly, weird closeness.
The last couple were so cute. I hope she finds someone nice, she seemed so innocent.

The 'fixed stare' guy was coming on mega strong sexually. He wanted to meet her for another date. She tried to appear casual, saying 'maybe' but then qualified this with a 'yes'. Hence it was astonishing that there was no follow up, i.e. the implication was that he disappeared! Maybe he was just playing to the camera. He came across to me as a real sleazeball.
Re. the first date that was shown...I was very surprised that the feminine girl (with the long frizzy hair and big eyes) who was dating the handsome model, didn't feel that there was a spark! She seemed so into him and even gave him her special smile.... He was surprised too! What happened there? Weird! Maybe she got scared - she said she had been hurt a lot.
Yes the last couple (the young ones) seemed sweet. I am sure she will find someone.
The starey weird guy disappeared after their second date, a lucky escape for the lady, he was beyond strange!!
Oh so they went on a 2nd date? I thought he didn't even get that far.... He was very intense - even when sitting he was leaning across to her very closely...almost desperate!
She was not a pushover though, i.e. tried to dig a bit deeper.
Fred is best at in those few seconds of the dates entering the restaurant and meeting their dates, his chat may help relax those nervous ones. But I don't miss his pieces to camera.
I'm glad "I'm not crazy" girl didn't get a second date. She seemed nice on the outside but once she started conversing with her date, you could see on his face there was something not sitting right with him.
The young couple who were always saying, "Nice to see you", hope they do well together, they seemed a decent match at the outset.
The 'I'm not crazy' woman was setting herself up for failure. She had too many conditions/barriers and drives herself far too hard, e.g. getting up at 5 a.m. to go to the gym...pleeeze!!!

Do you feel the Australian version shows how the UK version should be done. There is no maitre d stating the obvious whilst trying to appear deep and philosophical and the show concentrates on the diners.

Well somehow the Australian version is less satisfying to me (nothing to do with the absence of the maitre d). Not sure whether they have more couples or what but I don't feel we get to know them like we do in the UK version....or maybe they are less interesting/more conventional!
Anyway, waiting staff have managed to annoy me tonight.
Waitress nibbing in on Blackwood's date was poor on two counts.
They 'should' be there to chivvy the date along if it's dieing or get mid-date reports for us when one of daters is off in the toilet, this was neither of those.
It was an embarrassing bit of fandom.
Secondly Soaps are filmed weeks in advance (6 weeks for EE IIRC), so it's not unlikely he can't remember if he was on Friday's episode or what happened, it's gone, he's working on the next script.
I think they should have an extra program online that shows all the bits of the Maitre d, the waiter and waitress and the barman and remove them from the main show. Then we can have a choice whether to watch them.

A repeat is not an attractive proposition when you're actually looking forward to watching a new episode

Agree - well put!

Absolutely! The best thing about FD Abroad is that it's a Fred-Free Zone.

I think she's on again this week.
"Bread"
She's going to go far.

What a surprise, a Black person on TV you don't like.

I know what my choice will be.
