Don't know why they're making such a big deal about him playing for man city. Its not like he's gonna play that much maybe a few league and fa cup games but he won't be playing against chelsea so I don't know why its such a surprise. Its basically just to keep fit like beckham did.

perhaps because it sets a precedent as a means of evading financial fair play rules

what's to stop NYC buying up other players and loaning them to mancity

Wenger was making exactly this point today, for what it's worth.

I imagine they'll sell quite a few City shirts with "Lampard" on the back, which will be an added bonus. I reckon he'll get a run-out in the League Cup.

So it looks like this is being used as an intentional way of evading punishment

    as he says

"At the moment the players they sign cannot play until next year so they will register them in the other clubs and can get them out on loan," added Wenger

Didn't know that though I think maybe its just for the CL

Yes, "fair play" means "what can we get away with" to the money men who run City.

Good, this is what I hope Wenger and Platinis reaction were.

    No where near the money.

Just a usual Wenger winge at city's money.

It was alright when there was little competition for top 4 spots and he could coast to champions league qualification without spending much.

I also don't see him moaning when he's taking plenty of City's cash for various players.

nowt wrong with this deal, just wish chelsea were willing to offer 3 month contract for sentimental reasons.

of course understandable why they did not.

Are people happy now that it's been confirmed Man City are paying his wages?

I must admit I have a problem with one football club owing another.

I couldn't give a toss, to be honest.

I don't see Lampard having any significant impact at City. It's clearly just a fitness thing.

As for the wider argument, I'm pretty confident that UEFA would shut down any attempt to circumnavigate FFP in this way. If only because it would make them look extremely foolish.

    Wenger today:
If you look at a map, the shortest way from Chelsea to Manchester City is not to fly to New York first.
