How many of Ian Bell's many, many test innings can you honestly say - wow, those were important runs for the team? He has a purple series here & there (1 Ashes springs to mind) but now surely it is time to move on? Lest we forget how he flayed that Bangladesh attack.

Why? 1 admittedly poor series isn't enough to write him off given his previous record.

    Ian Bell though....

Ive never rated Ballance if im honest

No doubt he'll scrape a 50 at Cardiff and suddenly anyone who doubted him doesn't know what they're talking about.

He's averaging low 30s since the last Ashes. Not good enough.

His average is outstanding. As said, one bad ( short ) series doesn't make him a bad player.

Nobody better to play at 3 for me either.

More potential in Ballance than say Bell (who looks shot at this level both as batsman & fielder). Maybe case for Hales to come into the side or even move everyone up the order 1 place & play a spinner at 8?

Happy to give Taylor a go, but stick with him for a run of say 20 tests. Bell given so many opportunities

We need to emulate the rearguard we had last year at Headingley against New Zealand when we only just failed to bat the day out after starting 5 down
Moeen batted all day and Jimmy lasted 55 balls for 0

Our 'bottom' 5 that day were Moeen, Prior,Jordan, Broad and Anderson which is probably not the 5 that you'd think could bat all day so all is not lost yet

Of course, much depends on our rejuvenated Captain

Why drop Ballance ? Are we so fickle that 2 low scoring test matches turn him into a no hoper ?

The guy has played 12 tests and scored 4 centuries and 5 50s at an average of over 55. If that means he isn't good enough then i don't understand what is.

If Bell has an awful Ashes then surely it would be time to move on from him

He seems to be a mentally weak player, only really making runs when the team is in a good situation

I was thinking of replacing Bell not Ballance.

Agree re Ballance, but Taylor for Bell is the offer being made I think.

Spin bowler is the other question - Ali clearly (& not surprisingly) struggling

Buttler in before Mooen? Was surprised that Stokes came out first but why Buttler. There us no chase happening here.

Last years star batsman is now batting just ahead of Broad Wood and Anderson. Bizarre, especially considering the situation where a cool head is required and Jos Buttler is a swashbuckler (claim copyright on this cool turn of phrase:D)

Accepted but I'm female! Don't know if there's a female version of "mate"?

Moen failed then, after a decent 1st test with the bat which may secure him an Ashes place as batsmen not frontline spinner.

I would be massively surprised if England last all the remaining overs
