Freeview Box Recommendation

I have recently given my old LCD 32" inch Tv 'non-freeview' tv to my son and I am looking at connecting it to a freeview box or dongle.

Can anyone recommend me a decent one for under £30ish?

Thanks in advance

...WOW - 237 'views' and not a single recommendation :(

Considering this thread is all about 'Freeview' - have to say I'm disappointed............

Anyway - for anyone who IS actually interested, I went for one of these:

Reading the spec and Q&A and reviews I would say that is not a Freeview box but a generic no name terrestrial box. And with some SD channels only available on the HD mux you may find some channels you wish to view missing.

...in the spec, it states it, "RECEIVES FULL STANDARD FREEVIEW TV CHANNELS APPOX 60 TV CHANNELS & 50 RADIO STATIONS , IN UK & NORTHERN IRELAND"

Its for my son's bedroom so I'm not overly concerned if a few channels are missing here and there. As long as the normal standard ones + a few kids ones are there, I'm happy!

I would thoroughly recommend TVonics Freeview boxes which have been very reliable for me. Although the company is no longer trading, plenty of there new MDR-251 and MDR-252 Freeview boxes are still available at cheap prices on both Amazon and Ebay.

This is a relatively quiet forum. You do have to be patient, we're not all sitting here constantly refreshing the site...

Despite everyone else's sayings of doom and gloom, unless your son is particularly interested in looking at digital text or Film4+1 it'll probably be reasonably fine.

If I had read your post after I bought a Huawei DN370T, then I would have recommended one of those.

I have had many Freeview recorders over the years, all with their quirks & faults, but this box is the best I have ever owned.

You can get used ones on Ebay for around £40.

There's a thread here about it:-

The answer is "no" because there isn't "a decent one" at that price - unless you look for second-hand.

I bought one of these and it works just fine:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BPAZGCG/ref=pd_luc_t_ttl_rh_sim_01_03_lh?_encoding=UTF8

It has its weaknesses but these are well documented in the customer reviews so read them first to avoid possible disappointment.

You could probably get one from a charity shop or car boot sale for about £5.00 .
As people ( including me last week, for example ) replace their analogue CRT TVs with Freeview LCD TVs, Freeview boxes become redundant.
