I went into specsavers once and I was absolutely disgusted. I asked for a pair of glasses and came out with a pair of glasses tattooed on my forehead

Wait. That's not supposed to happen?

I didn't think so either - until it happened to me back in September.

It's much cheaper to buy glasses online. I like Glasses Direct - you can order up to 4 frames at a time to try at home. I much prefer that (and the cheaper prices!) than having to try on and buy glasses in a shop.

Yeah, how anyone can say Specsavers are cheap is beyond me. Cost an arm and a leg. Power of advertising I guess.

I only wanted one pair of specs but was only allowed to purchase 2 pairs... couldn't I just have one one at half the price? Nope, can't do that. :kitty:

They endlessly spam me with offers through the post that I don't want. With the cost of all that they could reduce their costs too I figure .

    BMW are just as bad.

I saw they had an offer which allows me to buy a 116i for £279 per month.
I went in to buy an M5 but found that they wouldn't honour their offer to sell it to me for £279 per month.

    The bastards. >:(

    £279 per month?

    I8, here I come.

Should the government or the police shut them down?

The Asda once delivered to me blue top milk instead of red top. I was distraught for literally minutes. I propose they immediately close down every store and send the staff down a coal mine or something.

I've always had great service with SpecSavers and the staff are really friendly and helpful.

I have a pair of bifocals for work and reading glasses for home and I always get the two for one offer.

It was slightly different for me. I left with a CD by The Visioneers.

It's your mother's own fault, she should've read the small print.

My town has three independent opticians (+ specsavers).

I go to the independent one as the owner is also a part-time opthalmic surgeon, is really knowledgeable and is a nice person.

Yeah she is short sighted. She has reading glasses already but doesn't use them.
She is know telling me through she would not have got the £69 offer even if she went for one pair of each and would have had to pay £39 more. She couldn't get the £69 as her prescription was not for that. It appears no one can get the £69 offer and its just one big con involving medical professionals as well. He told her if she went to another branch she could get it through.

The price quoted includes standard lenses. I am also short sighted, and require high-density lenses due to my prescription. I am fully aware that when I buy new glasses, I need to add around £50-100 to the cost to account for the lenses I require.

This is not a scam. This is not a con. It is perfectly legitimate to advertise prices in the way Specsavers do.

Poundland are at it and should also be closed down. They have signs on the window saying "Everything's £1", to sucker you in and when you get in there you quickly realise that it's each and every item that's a pound and not everything as they describe. A total con.

Specsavers are cheap, compared with other high street opticians.

Do you not understand the concept of '2 for the price of 1'? It's not half price! I'm sure you felt good though, trying to bully the assistant into giving you a discount, when they have no influence over commercial decisions or pricing structures.

Every company advertises. There will be a defined return on investment, otherwise they wouldn't do it. In fact I'm sure Specsavers are able to offer more competitive pricing due to the custom generated by advertising. It's capitalism, learn to love it.

Every time I have ever had my eye tested at any opticians I have been prescribed new glasses. When I started to notice this pattern I started asking what exactly the difference was between the old prescription and the new one and if I really needed a new pair of glasses, so far the replies I have got have been along the lines of a small difference and not really. These days I get a new pair of glasses when the old pair brakes.
Yeah, I've noticed this with Vision Express as well. My eyes are fine yet they still said I nedded glasses.

Is this suppose to be a serious question?

One 'bad' experience in one store warrants the closure of an entire business?

Here's a mad idea for OP: is it possible that you can have one bad experience at a chain outlet that does not reflect the whole company?

I've got to agree. I think Specsavers is great! They have always given me excellent service and my new branch is particularly fabulous!

Specsavers are great, and the don't always say you need stronger lenses if you don't need them. They even said to me that I could use reading glasses but didn't really need to get any yet if I didn't want them. I explained I use Poundland to get mine, she said she didn't blame me, checked my reading vision and said I was using the correct strength.

Tested my daughter and she got NHS specs with a spare pair, as they were doing a kids deal on NHS glasses (or the NHS were, I imagine they pay in the end!).

They also thoroughly test for glaucoma as that is prevalent in my family, as well as some of the other things they can tell you (eyes are amazing, there's a lot of information to be found).

A shame they can't do my retinal scan at the same time, had to go to the doctor for that.

Actually there could be a case for a complaint against Specsavers and their "2 for 1" offer.

It's because the vital component that it's only for the same prescription is only in the small print.

A complaint to the Advertising Standards Authority would probably be upheld.

Isn't that why small print is there though? To be read and read in conjunction with an offer, to avoid any legal battles afterwards. If people don't read the small print then they can't blame somebody else for that.

As the saying goes 'always read the small print' :D

ETA:If you can't read it (for whatever reason) you can always ask for clarification on the offer from somebody before you make a decision to go ahead - or not - based on what you are told.

Not sure what you mean by "small print" (might be ironic for an optician...) - this condition is clearly stated e.g. on the main web page of the offer.

The staff at Shepherds Bush branch found a problem with my eye, checked and triple checked it and gave me a letter to give to my GP who has now referred me to an eye specialist. So thanks to them I'm hoping I can get the problem sorted out soon.

I have used Specsavers for years and have never had anything but good service.

I'm curious about the idea of buying glasses online. Do they check you are up to date with eye tests etc...? Also, what about having the glasses fitted/adjusted?

I had a very bad experience buying glasses online. Be very careful when doing so. Personally i would recommend a visit to specsavers.
