You must have really looked down the video list to find that as I tried the top 10 videos on DS and they all played.

I think that one is because it's BBC from iplayer.

There are other browsers for the iPad that do play flash, give them ago if you come up against it often.

I'm not sure which is best, I use puffin as it was free at one point. Oddly enough that particular video didn't work with it, go figure lol...

It seems to be because they use servers in America to convert the video on the fly and iplayer then thinks I'm not in the UK.

If someone, in their own iPad usage, their own iPad experience, never encounters a website which requires Flash, it does not make it "fanboy garbage" for them to say so. Just because some people do still visit websites which require Flash, does not mean that everybody does.

I'm like Gormond. I simply don't need Flash. It's not "fanboy garbage" to say so, it's a simple fact based upon my own usage, my own experience.

It's impossible to never come across flash, I love my iPad but it really is fan boy to come out with that rubbish.

If it had flash it really would be the perfect tablet, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to go out and buy an android one just to get flash but flash would make it better.

I can't even remember the last time I used flash on my mac which does have flash... I used to see it all the time when I first got an iPhone but more and more websites seems to be moving to either apps or HTML5.... Your experience may differ :D

I do come across it now and again but it's few and far between as as I said on the odd times I did come across it I used puffin to play the video.

Would you have noticed? AFAIK unless you right-click on an animation there's no indication of whether it's an animated GIF, Flash, Silverlight or driven by some other mechanism.

Perhaps it's impossible to never come across it, but it can still be extremely rare for some people. It all depends on which sites you visit. Everyone's browsing habits are different. Just because some people do use sites which require Flash does not mean that everyone uses sites which require Flash, even occasionally.

Indeed. I don't miss it on the iPad or iPhone, not at all.

iPlayer, YouTube, TVCatchup - No need for Flash, as they have HTML5 websites, plus they all have apps.

Sky Go, 4oD, Demand Five, ITV Player, Netflix, Lovefilm - No need for Flash, as they all have apps.

BBC News & Sky News - Apps.

Even porn sites I visit have HTML5 versions now.

I cannot remember the last time I ever visited a website and thought "oh crap, if only the iPad had Flash :( ". I just do not need it for my usage. Video sites and services I use do not need Flash. I never play browser games (not even on my Win7 PC), so do not miss Flash there, and I don't care about being unable to see Flash-based adverts.

For my usage, Flash is irrelevant.

If you used OSX you wouldn't have asked that question... It's quite evident when the video in question is flash! :D

Very occasionally I'll find a video I want to watch on my phone that I can't play because my phone doesn't do flash, but it's rare and I can wait until I'm at a computer. I have an HTC Cha Cha running Android, and an iPhone. Neither phone can do mobile flash. I watch plenty of videos on both because a lot of the sites I use to watch vids have moved to HTML5 already, which is what Adobe is also moving to.

Getting thread back on topic, at least momentarily, my purchasing decision is made.
What spec do I want - the highest spec announced ( thanks to my company bonus paying out this month ), black or white is the only remaining decision.
So - my question is , announcement is Wed night UK ( given the San Francisco time zone ), based on previous releases ....when can I order ( Thursday morning ? ) and when can I get my own iPad 3 in my hands ( product availability ) ?

    Well, for the iPad 2...

    2nd March 2011: Announced.

11th March 2011: Released in the US.

25th March 2011: Released in the UK and various other countries.

Hopefully the UK will get the 3rd one quicker... We won't know any dates (or anything) until the announcement.

I bought my iPad 2 just wandering into Tesco on launch day and got a tenner off it, it was an impulse buy :p

Earlier that day I walked by hundreds of people queuing in Buchanan Street too :D

Despite the flash argument, I think you will have made a great decision that you won't regret, I have the 64gb 3G iPad and may well upgrade to the iPad 3 same spec when it comes out, I don't blame you for going for the highest spec, you can never have too much storage but you can always have "not enough", that's a place I don't want to go to.

Nope, I don't think that Apple did pre-orders for the iPad 2.

It did, however, do pre-orders for the iPhone 4S, so hopefully it will do so for the iPad 3 (or whatever the next one is called).

I really don't want to queue, but if it's anything like last year then you could be in for a wait if you don't nab one in the initial period after release. I'm hoping for pre-orders, so I can get one ordered online and just have it delivered.

My current one is 32GB. I'm going to go for 64GB for the new one, so long as Apple maintains the same sort of price points.

Sticking with WiFi only, though. No need at all for 3G for me. On the rare occasion I don't have WiFi, I can just tether it to my phone.

Is it the case that the wi-fi doesn't have GPS built in and so even when tethered won't support map services etc ?
I am swithering about buying the 3G for flexibility later on, although +£100 is a lot of money for "just in case" since I have an iPhone and can tether ( need to find out if Vodaphone charge for this ).

I too will go 64Gb ( unless the fabled 128Gb gets released ), I did read a report that Apple will drop the 32Gb order and go back to 16Gb but this sounds like nonsense on a tablet designed to support HD.

And I think black may win over white , suspect white case may show wear and tear more.

The white shouldn't look any different as it's under the glass.

How does its being under glass stop white's inability to hide grubbiness?

Black hides dirt; white accentuates it.

Flash was a request when the first Ipad launched in 2010 but most sites are going with HTML5 plus there's a few apps that can view flash sites for the Ipad anyway. I must admit there's little sites I go on which use flash now. The IOS5 update made other sites smoother too.

I'm sure it's well documented online flash as an entire site is pretty much finished. I'm sure they are moving onto other things if I'm not mistaken?

Websites are actually being redesigned to suit IOS as much as internet explorer too. My PC even runs better now sites run less flash.

Ipad is great I think hardly anybody notices the lack of flash these days.

Yeah, the WiFi only models do not have GPS. I've seen some stories saying that if a WiFi iPad is tethered to an iPhone, it will get GPS info from the iPhone... But I have also seen stories saying that is not true. If it doesn't work, then all you'd get on the WiFi iPad, whether tethered or not, would be location info based on WiFi access points.

Still, when I need accurate location info, I have the GPS on my iPhone...never wanted mapping on the iPad myself.

Dropping 32GB does sound ridiculous, given that the "iPad 3" will allegedly be capable of 1080p video. It may be that Apple will drop the 32GB iPad 2, and just keep the 16GB model as a cheaper entry level iPad?
