    Hi all
My first post here so be gentle!

    My thoughts on LBC currently....
Steve Allen: love or loathe I think he is a `natural` presenter. He does it all effortlessly and although the content is often similar he is a class act and certainly pulls in the figures daily. Dont take him too seriously and just enjoy the banal rants. I think his `in converations` are poor. He talks about himself too much and should really be getting more from his guests.

Nick Ferris[!] Not a natural presenter like Steve. Should have more of a free reign. Too many guests. No need for a paper reviewer or the ghastly Henk Potts. Let Nick have a little more freedom. He can be v funny at times. Let him off the reign a little and give him more space to add his own comments and thoughts.

James. Not a big fan. I find him rather annoying and dont really warm to him. I am sure his rajar is good but its all a bit combatative and angry. Slightly whiney and cantankerous.

Julia. Not a fan. Not great on radio. Better on telly.

Petrie. Dont warm to her terribly. Thinks she is way better than she is. She is ok on air and competent but I normally switch off fairly soon.

Ian. Nice guy by all accounts. Quite fair on air too. A relaxed listen but would prob be better in the early afternoon. Maybe drive shld have more pace. Certainly a place for him though and I do like his easy relaxed style.

Olly. Not v life experienced. Sounds often v wet behind the ears. Not a natural broadcaster and prob better as a writer and journalist. Perfectly nice man and ok on over nights but no star quality at all.

Nick Abbot. marmite. love or hate. Personally cannot stand. I have to turn off immediately.

The travel guy in the morning. Andy How on earth he gets that gig. His blabbers on so fast and mumbles. Its hilariously awful.

Clive. Been there too long. He is a lovely guy but oh so dull. Never makes me laugh. Its v dull. Its like magnolia wallpaper. V v bland. Dependable but bland.

Anyway..those are my honest thoughts. Overall I do listen daily to LBC and enjoy it very much and I love reading all the comments here.

I would love any reaction my thoughts!! This is a super web site.

Excellent post and hope it is the first of many, welcome to the thread Edwardlondon

Very good analysis, IMO, and especially interesting from a first-time poster, as we're all a bit entrenched in our positions! I agree with what you say about Steve Allen - he's definitely a natural, even if it's only naturally annoying! And I've always said that while I don't always like Nick Ferrari, he's extremely professional in what he does.

When I was last there, several years ago, they were a friendly bunch. 'Admiring' each others bikes ("nice pipes" ... "when did you last grease your nipples" !!!!!!!) They also get involved in a lot of charity work.

I used to until recently live nearby, and went there a few times, if I had known half of the LBC thread went there we could have had a meet up, and EdwardLondon welcome.:)

BTW how many callers today said "if you let me get a word in".

Brian has bizarre jealously issues with Boris Johnson. It's all rather unseemly and....odd.

v kind of you to respond.

I forgot a couple more observations of mine.

Cristo. Like Steve Allen he is a natural broadcaster and one genuinely warms to him. A pretty ghastly radio voice but seems like a nice man and does light hearted chatty speech well. Certainly not up for any newsy issues or heavy politics etc.

Ian Collins. Too Essex for me. Not really up to it and also not up to being on talksport a while back. Thinks he is a heavyweight in radio but quite honestly would struggle on radio dagenham,

Ian Payne. Good on sports but I feel LBC should steer clear of sports. 5 live walk all over them and so do talk sport so I think LBC should scrap sports as they have no gravity at all and one just doesnt take LBC seriously with sports. A reasonable, if a rather bland, fill in presenter.

I do sound rather negative! I am sorry. Radio though is so personal and its great to hear what others are saying.

    Oh...2 more

Larry Lamb. Technically hopeless but actually comes across as a genuine and kind hearted man. Once or twice a week is enough but he is overall a good egg.

The two Davids. They do ramble a little but its quite entertaining. Again like Larry, technically clueless, but when they get a good debate going with opposing views it is quite fun. Once a week enough though.

Sorry, Kiko. I thought you were one of Brian's more avid supporters, but can appreciate that you may not have such an interest in Brian on the Beeb. It should be interesting tonight though. I will be posting from my multi-media hub on developments as they happen - LIVE!

Now that Gaza has quietened down perhaps you could pull in some RT, Al Jazeera and CNN reporters to get the world perspective?

Maybe he's jealous because of Boris and Nick's "bromance"? Of course, Brian is a socialist (apparently) and Boris is a Tory, so maybe that's the problem.

Who on Earth chooses the subjects for discussion?
"when your pet dies, is it the same as losing one of your family?"
    Dear oh dear, Olly.

The people who 'phoned in were sensible though. None of them wanted a big funeral for their dead pets. That seemed to both surprise and annoy Olly, perhaps he wanted to berate them for being daft and didn't get the chance.

It's the sort of out of touch subject only brought out by those who have had such a sheltered, privileged up bringing, like Olly Mann had.

I think it's a little more deep-seated than that and some sort of public school issue that Brian feels slightly inadequate about. He is obsessed with events at his school 30 years ago...

I go for the Nick and Boris bonhomie.

Bri is fairly charmless and clumsy when it comes round to Tory politicians.A good broadcast journalist should have the ability to communicate with all - He just attempts to bite their head off.

I read in the paper today that Boris Johnson recently had dinner with Nick Ferrari so their relationship appears to extend beyond the mayor being a guest on Nick Ferrari at Breakfast. It might explain why Nick generally gives Boris an easy ride when he appears on his show.

James O'Brien is too right-wing on a range of issues to be described as a socialist.

Yesterday, on Ask Boris, he refused to confirm that he was going to seek election as an MP. Nick F has been pressing him about this for months. From what I can see Boris didn't give Nick the exclusive about his decision (it may have been an exclusive to LBC but not Nick himself).

Although LBC was chafing at the bit to get the exclusive on this, I believe it was revealed on BBC Radio 4.
When all is said and done, are any of us surprised by this 'revelation'?

Kiko was referring to shamed, failed and sacked ex-radio presenter Jon Gaunt.

I'm a bit surprised he even knows who Gaunt is.

Did Gobber devote a full two hours trying to destroy Boris' s chances today? He really is a zealot.

That was an interesting discussion on Iain Dale's show about arms sales, although it only scratched the surface and never really went anywhere.
No problem - I do realise that time is limited.
I would recommend a book (and Academy Award nominated documentary film) entitled "Dirty Wars', by investigative journalist Jeremy Scahill - a real eye-opener.

What I want to know is. . . If he continues to do both jobs, will he be taking only half the Mayor's salary and only half his MP's salary plus 50% of all expenses he's allowed?
If he can't give his full time to either job, surely he shouldn't take 100% of the salaries.
I may sound churlish but I'm helping to pay for it all!

He did discuss this, and it was mentioned on Iain's show. Under Parliamentary rules, he's not allowed to claim both incomes, but will take the larger.
