Exactamundo, I like the clean, image free look of DS pages, links to images are all that's needed, other Forums can be a bloody mess.
It doesn't have to be messy at all if it's implemented correctly. You just limit image sizes to no larger than say 800x600 and the forum software will automatically resize them. Besides, having only links to images posted can easily be exploited for nefarious means. Somebody could post a link to an image, like this -
Yet have it direct the poster, if they aren't careful, to something more sinister. Like I said though, it's no biggy. I just found it bizarre that a media site doesn't allow media to be posted.

Let's face it, there are some forums where you can trust the members to be responsible about what they post and there are some forums where you can't.
DS is the latter.
When you add that to the apparently litigation-fearful attitude of the admin's, it's hardly surprising that they do what they can to minimise the opportunities for people to post anything dodgy.
Bottom line is that if something appears ON the DS website they're responsible for it whereas if it's just a link to an external source, they're not.
The one thing that really gets my dander up is posters pimping violent porn / abuse videos on here so that others can either link directly to them or search them out when they would never otherwise even have heard that they existed - then they can all hunker down together and see who can be most disgusted and horrified and wishing that they hadn't watched it.
