Can't beat Wizzard's I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, or for the more classically minded amongst us, the Lt Kije suite from Troika by Prokofiev. . .Trust me, you'll know it when you hear it. :D

I can't stand all the awful 70s US kids stuff that gets wheeled out in supermarkets at Christmas. Also very fed up of that John Lennon song.

Fairytale is a Christmas song by accident

It's a sad story about broken dreams and love that just happens to be set at Christmas....the NYPD doesn't even have a choir! The shock! It's been adopted because it hasn't aged badly like Slade and Wizzard and has an edge about it, half the people that like it probably don't know the lyrics or the meaning of it

It's like When A Child Is Born, which I've grown to love, Mathis didn't even realise that could be a Christmas song and was about to release it in July when a record exec pointed out it could have some Christmas in it

Crikey. We actually agree on something. ;):) Back to normal in the new year? :)
When A Child Is Born is one of the very few Xmas songs that I love. You have excellent taste Mr Ambassador.

    It's brilliant.

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams is enough to put the fear of the run-up to Christmas in me!

Also Frosty the Snowman sounds quite depressing too.

I don't actually know the song mentioned in the OP :o The one I can't stand is 'All I want for Christmas is you' which unfortunately is my daughters favourite.

Quite a few I dislike - Slade, Wizzard, Mariah Carey, East 17 (is that even supposed to be a Christmas song?), the John Lennon one, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas (no matter who sings it) and I'm now getting sick of The Pogues' one even though I used to like it. It's overplayed.

The fairy tale of New York.
    Horrible, over-rated dirge.

I totally agree. There seems to be a real backlash developing against that song, and not a day too soon imo. It's Radio 1 and other musical snobs who try and push the idea that's its the best Christmas song ever, but I personally think it's depressing dirge. Give me the likes of Slade, Wizard, Shakin Stevens etc over that tripe anyday of the week. Thankfully stations like Heart aren't too snobby to play them like Radio 1 are.

Slade has to be the worst of all, even worse when the original video is shown at the same time - nauseating.

The best Christmas song ever, in my humble and let's face it slightly pissed opinion, is "Step into Christmas" by Elton John

"Eat, drink and be merry, come along with me.... step into Christmas, the admission's free"

"Driving Home For Christmas" just ****s me off... it's the dullest Christmas song ever and is only a Christmas song because he says the word "Christmas"... it could be "The Weekend" foro all the seasonal joy in it...

    and...

"Baby It's Cold Outside"... because it's a song about date rape.

Kirst McColl was OK. He just sounded like a drunk.

    My favourite.....Blue Christmas...Elvis Presley.

I hate Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Power of LoveThe Pogues is a good song it's just been adopted as a modern Christmas album

If we'd had internet boards 50 years ago we'de probably be saying

'White Christmas, hate the bloody song'

It's a song associated with Christmas even though it wasn't an Xmas number 1 and Christmas isnt mentioned in the lyrics. However, the vid of the Nativity ensured it'd be forever associated with Christmas.

Another one I hate is 'Stay Another Day' by East 17. The freeview music channels play it a lot. think the video makes them all look complete twonks in their white snorkle hoods and post-production high-contrast gleaming snow.

There's two I can't stand. I've never like O Holy Night, it irritates me. Christmas Wrapping is also annoying, but that's mostly because I had to sing it at a Christmas concert my drama group did (not on my own, with a choir) and it's the most relentless bloody song in the world!

    I love

Queen - Thank god it's Christmas
    Jim Reeves - Silver Bells
    Slade and Wizzard
    Last Christmas - Wham

    Hate

All I want for Christmas is you - Mariah Carey
That new one from COld Play
Versions 2 and 3 of Do they know its Christmas
Mel and Kim - Rockin around the christmas tree
Also any "Christmas" song that clearly isnt christmas song, Baby its cold outside, Angels, Stay another day, All the time in the world! I dont hat the songs as such, only when they are included as christmas songs!

Also, is it wrong to like Another Rock and Roll Christmas by GG, I absolutely love it and, for understandable reasons, it doesn't get played or appear on compilations any more! Had to download it!
