interesting thanks, winslet definitely looked older but she is the perfect rose, and leo got away with playing a 19 year old because i think maybe he was 23/24 during the film?

i thinks it's a testament to those two because they played these characters so well and with such maturity that had you told me this wasn't a teenage young love story and was two older characters as jack was very worldly and wise, i would've believed you.

Interesting reading the Jack vs Heath joker debate, I feel they share that title :)

Jim Carrey as The Riddler though, he absolutely was perfectly cast in that role and updated the cartoony 60's Riddler in a perfectly zany way :)

Would there be as much fuss about Heath Ledger as the Joker if he was still alive? Probably not.

Yes, there would, his depiction of The Joker was drawing huge hype from the very first release of promo shots and word from the set created a huge buzz in the months between shooting and his death. It was an incredible portrayal of a character that had previously been brilliantly portrayed by a Hollywood legend, Leger did his own thing with it and was amazing, death or no death.

Exactly, Ledger got lost in the role, he understood the joker much more than Nicholson. He was sinister and his transformation from his other roles was brilliant. if you take the make up off Nicholson, well he was just playing Jack Nicholson.

Nick Castle as Michael Myers/The Shape in Halloween, spot on perfect performance. No other Michael gets the stance or walk right.
Also Gunnar Hansen as Leatherface in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

And Kathy Bates as Annie Wilkes in Misery, one of the few performances that genuinely lifted the character right off the pages of the book and it also turned her into an actress to respected and admired.

Leo has always looked younger than his age to be fair. I believed Jack and Rose were in their early 20s. I couldn't see Jack and Rose played by anybody else. They were both perfect.

I think Kate Winslet in Eternal Sunshine was just amazing, I loved her in that. That should have been her Oscar win imo.

Johnny Depp - Captain Jack Sparrow

Helena Bonham Carter - Bellatrix Lestrange (Perfect)

I agree with this. She was exactly as I had imagined Bellatrix.

I disagree with those who say Rickman was perfect casting for Snape - he wasn't. Snape was supposed to be much younger HOWEVER Rickman did play the character very well - he is a talented actor and I cannot imagine anyone else in the role.

Ironically, Jack Nicholson's persona is closer to The Joker than anything Ledger did. That's why Burton cast him in the role.

Ledger was more like a random psycho who was more similar to The Riddler, in my opinion. I didn't feel as if he captured The Joker very well despite putting in a good performance as a psycho.

I saw a countdown of Total Films website of the '150 best acting performances' of all time. Jack Nicholson was number one for his portrayal of Randle Patrick McMurphy in 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.' I do not believe that there is anyone else that could have played that role when you consider the physical appearance and the demeanor of the actor himself.

Think you'll find that Robert Mitchum played a more convincing Max Cady than Rober Di Nero did.

I think that they were both good in context of their eras.

Vivian Leigh as Scarlett in Gone With the Wind.

Along with Clark Gable as Rhett. In fact as soon as they knew they were going to make the film, I don't think anyone else was seriously considered.

Of course, we all know what a fluke it was that Vivian got the part... I think EVERY actress in Hollywood tried out for the part and they actually started filming without it being cast. Makes yer wonder what they would've done if VL hadn't been spotted...

    And my suggestions:

Bogart in Casablanca... also The African Queen

Henry Fonda and Katherine Hepburn in On Golden Pond

Bette Davis in All About Eve... fasten your seatbeats everyone...

Mae West in everything she ever did

Robin Williams in Good Morning Vietnam

Bette Davis as Baby Jane Hudson in Whatever happened to Baby Jane. Perfect casting for both her and Joan Crawford. Think it made it even better that the two hated each other in real life.

In the books isn't Jack Reacher 6' 4"?

And isn't Tom Cruise, well, not 6' 4"?
