Leona lacks in performance skills. She's getting better, but she isn't a natural born performer in that respect. She couldn't pull of choreography very well imo.

Who cares when you have a voice like hers, Celine, Whitney, Mariah don't dance either. Leona's a natural born vocalist.
She does, Its amazing what make up can do, she was a bit rough in Soul Surfer
what was brad paisley like live? i went to see Toby Keith last monday at the apollo in manchester (sold out) he was absolutly amazing! id def recommend you go see him next time he comes over, it was absolutly brilliant! ...
and yes Carrie Underwood would sell out venues over here in the uk, im 100% ceratin of it. just speaking to a few ppl at the concert in manchester monday i was actually really surprised how many people love country music here in the uk

But they have more stage presence. I've only seen Leona REALLY command the stage when she sang Run on X Factor. Most other times she has never really had confidence.
Plus when she performed Collide she tried to dance and failed. Why release an uptempo and just stand there?
Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Melinda Doolittle, Adam Lambert, Crystal Bowersox, Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart..
I wouldn't necessarily put Leona above any of these contestants, but certainly she is up there with the best singers ever to come out of these competitions vocally. In terms of total star power I would put Adam, Kelly, Carrie and depending on her debut album, Haley R in front of her. Although there is no arguing Leona's amazing success.

She usually bores me but she did great on that . Fantasia however seems to be playing a totally different ball game on stage every time I watch her though.

Brad was excellent live, some singers are crap live but he was excellent, and an amazing guitar player.
Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Carrie Underwood, Melinda Doolittle, Adam Lambert, Crystal Bowersox, Pia Toscano, Haley Reinhart..

I'd put Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina before Pia and Haley although they are also excellent, Idol last year had quite some tallent.
This one-hit wonder does not even deserve to be in the same sentence as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson. Fantasia Barrino can blow her away.
Although I like Leona, I have to agree with you about the others, Fantasia in particular is amazing. When you think of the talent AI has spawned over the years, Dawtry, Adam Lambert, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson.....Leona is the only British winner who deserves to be mentioned in the same breath, but no way is she the best ever.

This is in response to the point made earlier that a part from 'winning an Oscar'- (yes consider those words), she as not done much else-'apart from winning an Oscar'.
Seems she has though.
Nevertheless the woman is clearly a complaint failure and should be ignored in fact she is irrelevant (go away and take your Oscar and multiple other awards with you).
Now where I have put SYCO's greatest hits? Subo where are you?
Meh Homeless was good, Glassheart not so much...this was way better in terms of a club performance than Glassheart...imo
I like Alex and she is definately the better dancer and puts on better uptempo performances, but I was just trying to prove that Leona has great stage presence and can still put on a great live show.
Fantasia is hugely underrated. If she had the same commercial success as Kelly, Carrie and the others then I don't think many people would dispute she is the best vocalist to come from these shows.
Her performance of 'Summertime' is breathtaking, and Simon named it as his personal favourite.
I remember her 'Summertime', undoubtedly my favourite performance from any of the talent shows, it was breathtaking.
ETA: just had to go watch it again, still get chills from it

I forgot this Fantasia performance ,anyone who can make Cowell's head explode on live TV is fine by me

Can't agree with this Zack, all Leona's performances since the tour has shown tremendous confidence and stage performance, I still think her Labyrinth tour was great, that is why it the music dvd remained in the charts for weeks. She moved around plenty, in fact she even surprised me lol. Before the tour, I think you may have had a point, but not since imo. Just loved her performances at G.A.Y.
I'm not being funny but why has the OP started a thread on this subject if he's not willing to have his view contested? Particularly getting into all the sales debate as if that is a barometer of what their original suggestion was.
For my money, there has never been a contestant of Adam Lambert's standard on any of these shows before or since but if anyone disagrees, so what? I disagree with others. Maybe the OP needs to learn that that's what debate is all about.

I disagree. In terms of charisma, personality, all-round ability, little less range and a more pleasant tone, I'd put Alexandra way ahead of her. I'd also put another two winners and a couple of non-winners on a par with Leona. It's just such a shame that Simon put all his eggs in one basket when it came to promoting XF winners/contestants internationally. The man clearly needs to read up on the meaning of "false economy".
I'd put Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina before Pia and Haley although they are also excellent, Idol last year had quite some tallent.
As a 17 year old boy and a Country singer, Scotty is exceptional. His tone, for a male of his age, is unique. Lauren however is less than Carrie Underwood "lite". It's beyond me how she got to the final and I think she would have struggled in another year.
The talent in AI 2010 wasn't great, it was merely overrated and overpraised.
I don't know if this is based on sales or personal preference. So this is JMO.
I like Leona a lot but I think there are better winners. Someone mentioned her cover of 'Run', I think it's actually better than the original.
When I listen to 'A Moment Like This'.. Kelly's winning song, which was also given to Leona. There's no comparison.. Kelly owns it. Leona's version hurts my ears.
USA - Kelly Clarkson wipes the floor with Leona. She has a clarity to her voice that I really like and I don't think Leona has. I've also never seen Kelly Clarkson mime or lip sync. That girl just seems to get out on stage and get the job done.. and done well.
UK - Alexandra Burke has a little something extra than Leona. Vocally she's fab and she has the ability to put on a good show, something I've never seen Leona do. I've also never seen Alex mime or lip sync. I guess that's a pretty important thing for me.
Having said that, I've been listening to 'Spirit' and 'Echo' quite a lot recently and I do love both albums. So.. I don't really wish to sound negative about Leona because she is an amazing talent.

Oh yeah can't believe I forgot about the country teens. Add them to the list.
Haley will always be my all time favourite though.
He's ok, but not the same standard, just my opinion of course.
