Some people really don't understand how hard presenting a live show is, even more so on a commercial broadcaster.
Given the unpredictable nature of an F1 paddock, I'd honestly say that Lazenby's job is the hardest in sports anchoring.
ok but lets separate his general performance as a broadcaster (which as you say is a bloody difficult job) wish some of his moronic moments (tasteless on air joke in monaco, throwing water from the monza podium) which tend to suggest he is totally unsuited for live television.
I would say the forum is even more important on non live races, i doubt you will see one today. When pushed recently, Benson said some crap about it wasnt possible to do Forums on non live wkends.
Only if you have the Sky HD pack. It is in HD for free on BBC One HD. I think that was his point.
I wish that the commentators would not talk over the announcer on the podium ceremony. Ben did it last weekend too.
BIB - how does one get BBC HD for free? Do you mean it's free as long as you have paid extra for a Sky HD box (in which case it's not really free!) but the way you have phrased it implies that you mean something else other than via a Sky HD box.
I have an HD ready TV, but don't get any HD TV on it. We get some digital channels over here but only about 18 of them, and none of them is listed as being in HD. We don't have access to TIVO (or whatever it's called - don't understand half this stuff!) in the island - it's limited digital as already mentioned or it's Sky. The majority of TV comes from Sky in the island - it's the only reliable way of getting a picture (digital often breaks down - for instance, we had no digital picture for 24 out of the last 36 hours) but I have no idea how I can access the so-called 'free' HD channels for 'free' without paying extra for a Sky HD box.

I agree - the forum should be vital to the highlights programmes as much as the live ones, if not more. I've never seen or heard the reasons why we don't have a forum after the highlights races, but (unless this is too simplistic!) surely if the guys are already there in whichever country and commentating/doing links "live" to be broadcast a few hours later (which they are) it can't cost them any more to just do a forum anyway straight after the race, then delay the broadcast until the highlights have been shown on BBC1 and then make it available on the red button straight after that, just as they do on live Sundays. That way they can still get all the drivers, all the team principals, all the interviews straight after the race (before anyone leaves the circuit) and the fans won't care about the time delay as along as they get a forum.
Seems to be a common sense solution... but then, when did common sense have anything to do with it?!
Marty B...
" It never ceases to amaze me how much information a Formula 1 driver can take in......thats Mark Webber being read out all the cars around him what tyres are on as well as going into a clutch start procedure.
Theres a lot of work goes on in this formation lap as well and its a bit like just before somebody kicked off in the centre circle reading out what colour socks all the other players have got on and trying to remember it. "
Is it just me, but wouldn't 11 players have the same whatever colour socks, the other 11 players have different the same whatever colour socks, so only 2 different sock colours to remember.

I am talking about in the UK, you have not made it clear where you are though.
All you need is a HD TV (which most have got anyway) and a HD receiver (Freeview HD, freesat HD, Sky HD, Virgin Media HD or a Virgin Media TiVo box).

Saw full BBC coverage, commentary was good apart from DC not being impartial when it came to Di Resta blatantly driving into Senna's path. Can't believe that didn't get punished when Vettel's move did.
FOM start replays are just stupid when almost nothing happened. And we should still have a proper televised press conference.

Vettel got punished because it was a Ferrari. Even though it was Fernando that put his car there.
David's blatant ass-kissing of Di Resta is getting annoying now.

OK, I was giving the Sky anchor the benefit of the doubt until today but try as I may it's just not working with Lazenby at the helm and Sky needs to move him sideways to Rugby and replace him for next season. He is by far the weakest link on their coverage. He has no gravitas, little knowledge and is, frankly, a gibbering embarrassment. He kills the interaction between the other on screen talent stone dead.
I have watched the entire Sky F1 output this year and it has been excellent, bar the host. Loved the Echoes from the Past segments with Nigel Roebuck especially the Gilles and Ronnie features this season. The SkyPad has been a useful tool for fleshing out incidents and along with the F1 show Georgie Thompson has emerged as a confident presenter in her own right. Can F1 be seen to have a full time female anchor yet?
During the winter debrief and analysis I would hope that Sky realises that most of the negativity is coming from it's current anchor. Changes need to be made but will they be brave enough to do it?

Simon is a good presenter, but just doesn't seem suited for F1 - his knowledge, or the way he uses any research on screen doesn't come across very well. It's clear he's trying, and I wouldn't say he's been doing a bad job, but …. just not suited I think?
Asking the right questions at the right times after the action is key to painting a picture of the day's events, and we don't really seem to be getting that after the action.
Georgie T is the perfect replacement, she injects the same kind of energy that Jake does on the BBC. Jovial but professional, to the point, and tends to ask the right questions at the right times. Also helps the others to bounce off each other.
I believe she is the reason The F1 Show is as popular as it is, although most people probably don't even think about that when watching. If it was Ted & Simon it just wouldn't be the same at all.
Moving her to a full time presenting role across the weekend would be a great move. Have Ant down with everyone else and move into a small studio at the end of the programme once any interviews & atmosphere moments are nabbed from the paddock. Then end the quali/race shows with full on analysis round a sofa & with the sky pad from there. Or from a motorhome courtesy of a team, like the BBC did in the early days of the post-race forum
A few thoughts on the BBC's coverage this weekend:
Qualifying - why show the grid lineup without including the penalties? Seems pointless when this infomation would have been available in a highlights show
Coulthard needs to stop saying "on this day in history" - I don't know why he's doing it, it adds nothing to his commentary. Guess he could be doing it to give himself time to think, but I've never had the impression he needs to do this.
One sloppy edit in the race coverage, with Edwards referencing Senna giving back places for cutting the chicane, which was not mentioned previously in the commentary. Think the editors hand was forced by the Di Resta/Senna incident occuring immediately afterwards, guess Edwards could either have revoiced it or be more careful about mentioning previous discussions in the edited races.
Bias in the Di Resta/Senna incident - first really biased commentary I can recall from Edwards/Coulthard.

haha yeah he's been using it loads really, he probably doesn't even realise he's doing it so often.
I only saw the highlights and made me want to see the whole race. It looked an interesting race should not be cutting as much they should cut the team boss interviews unless completely necessary on highlights.
Was Horner's view on Vettel penalty a surprise nope. They only seem to show the podium on highlights if a British winner.
65 minutes is minimum in a 90 minute show for me, not 50/55 if inc formation/slow down lap.

So, therefore, its nothing like that.
We know it is a hard job but Simon seems to make it look impossible.

Jersey? I used my best jim bergerac detective skills there ....
I could be wrong though and maybe he is on the island from Lost.
I believe Freesat is available on jersey(?) which is probably the best bet.

"This race was made for a highlights show"
Oh really Jake?
Is any race made for highlights, I think not!!
As a side-point of curiosity, how much of the 1 hr 20 min race made it to the BBC highlights show, anyone?
50 minutes.
