For some strange reason I really loathe the name Ellie. In the same vein I also don't like Millie, Tilly, Maisie and Daisy. Complete lack of imagination shown with these names.
I would call my child a nice strong European name like Lars for a boy or Asta for a girl.
Well out of the examples you've mentioned above opposed to your personal choices I can bet which ones would attract the most ridicule and cause more eyes to roll
Asta eh? What's her middle name gonna be, 'Lavista'?
I can't stand old fashioned sounding names like Ethel- I was shocked that lily Allen called her daughter that.
Marjorie
Enid
Gretchen
Olga
Maud
Prudence
Dolly
Deirdre
All very unattractive names in my opinion
She'll grow up being called Edie, I'm 99% certain of it;)

Putting away names with negative connotations, the names I can't stand are:
Any name with Mae/May on the end: Lexi-Mae, Ellie-Mae, Amelia-Mae, Gabriella-Mae. Seriously, it's like every time somebody I know has a daughter they have to add hyphenated Mae onto the end.
Diminutives (especially ending in IE/Y) - Teddy, Ellie, Edie, Billy, Gracie. I just can't take them seriously as adult names - if you wish to call your kid a cutesy name at least give them a proper one to use so if they become a doctor they at least have the choice.
Any name with extra letters or spelt 'uniquely' : Aimeeie, Joei, Jazmyne, Kristofer.
And McKenzie. There is no way any child called that can become a functioning member of society.
In selecting my least favourite woman's name, I find that I am unable to choose between Margaret Thatcher and Anne Robinson. I think I must be biased against bitches.

In fairness, Kristofer is a legit name in its own right. I met loads of guys named Kristof and Kristofer since I was a kid. Met one named Kristoffer with a double f. Most were from Europe and the rest had family roots in Europe, though.
Edie/Edith is a current annoying one. Maybe Lily Allen started it.
Two girls I know have called their baby daughters Edith so they can shorten it to Edie. If you want her to be called Edie why not just name her Edie?! It's a stupid hipster name anyway.

Ah, me too. Really adored the name Esme, and although I'm a Twilight fan, they did ruin it, as you just know if you called your child Esme there would be at least one who'd say "oh, after Twilight?"

After seeing a programme on TV years back, I liked the name Carrick for a boy. After reading 50 shades of Grey, I changed my mind - for a similar reason!

Lily Allen's daughter is called Ethel not Edith.
Ellie's not a diminutive?

Ethel? Poor little soul
I like it.
I don't mind the name but if I ever had a daughter, I wouldn't call her Gertrude since the cat who comes over to my house is named Gertrude
