My initial thought at seeing this thread was, it would take alot for me to want to kick a 4 decade addiction. I think my interest would wane if I didn't enjoy watching the actor playing the lead or the way he was playing the Doctor, less so the companion, and if there were more convoluted stories/arcs. Currently I feel I'm watching a show with a perception filter in place, where I'm the only one that doesn't quite understand the plots when it should be perfectly simple to do so. But strangely, it is still enjoyable.
Probably if the show was taken over by an American TV company and became 22 episodes a year, an American Doctor and a bimbo sidekick in a low cut top and short skirt.
Granny, how can you be so nice to Chuff when he called your David a snivelling Mockney git?
As I said before, on a thread that seems to have fallen into the vortex, unlike some fans of some Doctors I don't get all upset and defensive when someone says something critical about my beloved 10th. I like Chuff (and Mrs Chuff), and they are entitled to their opinion. Wrong though I may think it is.

Completely agree.
I'm dreading that to happen now judging by how popular it has become over in the States!
Of course it's unlikely to happen, but if it did!:o
If American tv took it over. I seriously wouldn't even want to watch it. If it's British, it should stay British.
Probably if the Doctor ever got properly married. Really annoys me when people say he's married to River. Technically he isn't, and it should stay that way.
For me, it would be the wrong actor cast as the Doctor. There are some people in the world who I just cannot watch - Russell Tovey is one such person who renders anything he is in automatically unbearable. Will Mellor is another.

I would say McCoy was mine! He just wasn't right for it imo!
I've watched Classic and New Who through thick and thin, when much of what I was seeing was not to my liking, so NOTHING will stop me watching this iconic programme, it is Doctor Who after all.

Anything else doesn't really bother me!
Nothing would stop me watching after (personally) watching for 45 years or so. But if the USA took it on....oooer!
There'd be no opening credits....just "Doctor Who" on the screen followed by who is starring in it.....and the rest of the credits as the story unfolds. It would end with a simple 20 second end theme with credits at the rate of 20 names per second!! And finish with the end logo of NBC or whatever.
Everyone will have eras they favour the most (for me it's early Hartnell, The Hinchcliffe Years and the Moffat era that stand out the most) and everyone has eras that they don't like (again, speaking personally, it's JNT [sans late McCoy and the occasional Davison/Baker story] and RTD),
Man, you have great taste. You should post more often
At the moment the episodes are so confusing it's hard keeping up with it,i'll wait untill the next doctor & see how it goes, the confusing stories wouldn't make me switch off just not take as much an interest in the series as i do now.
female doctor or a black doctor wouldn't bother me as long as the material is good.
A return to the shockingly poor writing, direction, production and acting witnessed during the 6th and 7th Doctor's tenures....
I just finished McCoy's era for the first time a few minutes ago and I think his last two seasons were fantastic.
I really liked his darker portrayal as the Doctor and The Curse of Fenric which I watched this morning was utterly fantastic.

Pity about Season 24 though....
But did The Curse of Fenric actually make any sense.........
24 has one redeeming story, the superb Delta and the Bannermen.
Speaking as someone who's done it... I turned off twice.
The first time was during Tom Baker's penultimate season -- it was just so awful, cheap and tawdry. The second and final time (I no longer watch) was Matt Smith's first season. However, this has nothing to do with Matt. I didn't like the comeback from Eccleston's time. I kept hoping it would change -- I hated Tennant with a passion, but brand loyalty kept me coming back for more. I hoped with a new producer/new doctor it might turn but it was more of the same. Moffatt hadn't really changed since he wrote Curse of Fatal Death. So I finally gave up the habit and my Saturday's become much more relaxing with no more going mental at the telly. I'm now happy to stick with my DVDs of the original.

We have that already.

You'll be excited to learn that Moffat is showrunner for series 8! :D
At least he says he is. I don't know what the BBC say.;):D
I feel the same.
loved Voyager simply because of Kate she was made for that role,
When Joanna Lumley was being mentioned for DrWho..I cant think of a worse choice the woman already thinks she's some divine gift.
Completely agree.

That would definitely be the end for me.

Aww. come on, at least two of those things would be great
I would say McCoy was mine! He just wasn't right for it imo!
Well... 1. Poor script writing. Just like some of the Sylvester McCoy Doctor stories, and the Trial of a Timelord with Colin Baker.
2. If the Doctor was a woman
And 3. If the Doctor was black.
Then that would stop me totally.
Oh, if Bonnie Langford came back, I may not watch then.
and Camelot, I cannot think of anyone worse to be showrunner. *
* Well, Michael Bay, but MB's crap DW would at least make a ton of
money for the Beeb.
Bit racist!
But the rest I agree with.

You don't though :P That's the only reason to watch most of those shows.
