No he's not he's not even the 12th Doctor from that scene I get the feeling he is in fact a past Doctor one we didn't know about one who did something so bad The Doctor had to lock him away and maybe even erase the memory of him so even he didn't know about him.
Maybe the Doctor before the very first one we saw?
I am thinking that he may have come before Hartnell, if you get what I mean. As in, Hartnell was the first "Doctor", but what if Hurt came before the name "Doctor", what if he was a Gallifreyan who would, in time, become The Doctor>
Going by what Doctor Hurt said at the end, he was The Doctor who ended the Time War, and, this is confusing, he purposely "forgot" that incarnation in an attempt to rid himself of the guilt.
So John Hurt is either the twelfth Doctor (the least likely in my opinion), the actual true first or the actual true ninth with Christopher Eccleston actually being the tenth and so on...
Well I must sat that that wasnt too bad! for the first time since 11th hour I actually enjoyed it,so many nods, but where was 8? did we see or hear him at all? I know we didnt see 10 but I suppose thats becaaue we will have him in November.
Why do people thin Hurt is the new Doctor when Matt has already said he'll be in series 8???
McGann regenerates into Hurt who has a massive part in the time war and does that time lock thing by doing Non Doctory things. Devestated by what he felt he had to do he either eventually dies or forces a regeneration into Eccelston.
At some point in the 50th I presume Hurts Doctor is taken out of that timeline somehow and normality in the Doctors regenerations is restored.

Sort of he said he was a name he will be known as
No complaints this time (other than it's a real shame the John Hurt as The Doctor was widely known thanks to the filming of the 50th).

That's my take on it anyway.
Clara was the Timey Whimey answer to the problem and River Song had a pointless inclusion in the plot.
An above average story.
Absolutely 10 out of 10 from me. And a real shocker of an ending.
Amazing!
Presumably the rumours are right and Hurt, not McGann or Eccleston is the time war doctor.
But he's credited as The Doctor? :S
Great to see John Hurt at the climax. Fantastic
