I hope this woman gets identified because right now it just looks like a story invented by Iphone in collaboration with the forever misogynist the Daily Mail
PS I'm crazy.
Unbelievably crass posts

If you are cleared of the accusation I would agree. But how would you feel if you were convicted & sent to prison?
You & the accuser could be the only 2 people who knew you were innocent whilst everybody else, including those who love you, believe you are this vile character? You would be ostracized.
That would ruin your life. Saying as much does not downplay the suffering of genuine rape victims.
As I read it, the poster was stating that for victims of rape, there is help available for them to try to piece their lives back together. There is no such help of someone who is falsely convicted, unless they can demonstrate that they were falsely accused. Why would we help someone we believed to be a rapist.
I fear we'll never know. I think the woman should have got a longer prison sentence. She and others like her are down there with the lowest of the low society has to offer. Actively trying to ruin someone's life is utterly despicable in its own right (we really don't need to make it a competition when it comes to which crimes are worse).

I would almost understand if she knew him well and there was a feud. It would still be unbelievably awful but not as mindboggling as doing it to a total stranger.

Totally agree, though more in hope than in expectation.
What an utter scummy bitch this woman is. I think she should have got the equivalent sentence to a successful rape conviction. At least everybody knows who she is now and can avoid her at all costs when she is released. Despicable.
And then people wonder why guilty men get let off as the poor lady isn't believed. Not saying it is as bad as rape but anything that causes real cases to fall is pretty low. Had she succeeded she would have ruined the innocent guys life too.
What a shame there isn't an app that can prevent all the real rapes that go unpunished.
It's a long, long time since I've read a post on here with such incredulity. I don't know what you're even suggesting, that perverting the course of justice charges should be dropped if they are falsely claiming rape because real rape occurs?
If you want to play the poor downtrodden woman part, don't forget that it's the women who do this who are extremely destructive to real victims and give even more reasons for the stigma and judgements of rape victims.
Considering the number of people who have picked you up on this post, it would be nice to receive an explanation on what exactly you meant.
Don't kill me but it still just sounds like an Iphone advert to me
To be honest, I'm starting to wonder about this...although it wouldn't have occurred to me had people in this thread not considered and mentioned the possibility first.
Sounds like you're just interpreting this to suit your own preconceptions and prejudices.
READ THE ARTICLE REFERENCED IN THE OP!
I don't think the poster was trying to say it didn't happen, just that we live in such a cynical world full of dirty tricks when it comes marketing and the press that anything is possible.
A bit OT, but does this thread mean that iphone is now considered in the same way as 'hoover' and 'thermos' as being the generic name for a smartphone? The driver was using a Samsung.
Back on topic. Does it seem a bit odd (even beyond the totally unfathomable fact that she accused him in the first place) that she would happily pose for photographs? Surely any 'normal' person after committing such an offence would be utterly mortified and embarrassed by their behaviour, not revelling in it like she appears to be doing.
Oh, I hate this. Every time there is a topic about false allegations someone always has to act like we can't worry about it because actual rape is worse. Which, yes it is but that's not the point!
Look, I think most sensible and well balanced adults would stand up and say what an unforgivable and heinous crime rape is, but why are there people who want to downplay the absolute seriousness of false allegations? You can be of the belief that both false allegations AND rape are awful, awful crimes that can both ruin lives even if in different ways.
The attitude in the quote above absolutely disgusts me, frankly. Would you be so carefree about it if someone you loved was falsely accused and their life ruined? I bet you would not.
I'm not convinced that it is worse. Trauma and damage to life wise, it's at least on a par with actual rape. Plus the person will be reviled afterwards, whereas an actual rape victim gets every sympathy going.
Oh dear. I'm gutted you quoted my post because I think your comment here is ridiculous and insulting and I'm going to look bad since it looks like you are saying because of something I wrote.
For anyone reading, can I clearly state I think blueblade's opinion is disgusting and I in no way want to be associated with it? Thanks.
Thanks for the back-up - always helpful against those who seem to enjoy being as rude as blueblade does.
Says the person who's initial response to my perfectly civil post, was the one emboldened above.
I'm quite happy to disagree, and disagree robustly. But don't have the gall to accuse me of rudeness, when your reply above was one of the most personally unpleasant I've seen in a long time.
If you can't take it, don't dish it out :rolleyes:

The article says that he was using the phone's (not iPhone) voice recording capability because his CCTV was not working.
Mr Asif used his Samsung Galaxy S2’s voice recorder to tape Berwick’s 11-mile journey from Nottingham to her home in Bingham after his base told him she appeared to be drunk when making the 4.50pm booking in February.
He said that while the journey went smoothly, apart from when he had to pull over in a lay-by to allow her to vomit, Berwick argued about the £17 fare when he picked her up, which he believes may be why she made the allegation against him.
...
‘I don’t record all my journeys, but the office told me she had been drinking and that I should ask for payment up front.
‘So I put my phone on the dashboard cradle and left it on. If I hadn’t, I would be in jail now, I am certain of that.
...
Wasn't he lucky that he was recording the journey.
That poor, poor guy. Why on earth would anyone make that up?
Berwick argued about the £17 fare when he picked her up
...
he woman only wanted to pay £11 and had to go to a cash machine to get more money. She wasn’t very happy.
To save £6?
Or more like £17 and maybe a bit of compensation as well.
Is it saying he wouldnt have used the app if his CCTV had been working? Or would have used them both?
I cant believe the judge said he was saved by the app though. Her word against his but absolutely no evidence whatsoever. Its implying if he didnt have the app he would have been sent down
Disgusting

Yep, that's exactly what pisses me off as well.
She offers not one solitary jot of hard evidence, and he is inside as a result. It's pretty much an open invitation for anyone to make a bullshit allegation against someone else, and if they can't instantly prove it isn't true, that person is sent to prison awaiting trial.
...and who knows what verdict might be arrived at there.....?

While I hate how hard it is for genuine rapists to get convicted and be handed strong sentences, I think it's absolutely horrific someone can be sent down on just one other persons word against theirs. The law desperately needs changing on that point...it's terrifying and appalling beyond all reason.

In Scotland we're moving in exactly the opposite direction; at present the law requires corroboration, but the Scottish Government plan to scrap that. They have indicated that as a safeguard they might also require more than a simple majority of the jury to convict, though.

The Judge did not say that he was saved by the app, the victim said he was saved by the app.
Sentencing her at Nottingham crown court, judge Michael Stokes said: ‘Had he not recorded the conversation which demonstrated nothing untoward had occurred, he would probably still be in custody awaiting trial.

Doesn't it seem rather paradoxical that you might have the situation where, theoretically, somebody can cry a bit in court, make a sad face and get somebody wrongfully convicted of rape while at the same time genuine rapists are escaping conviction due to lack of evidence?
I can't really see how both those situations can co-exist side by side.

I've read the thread thanks.....it was your description which I found surprising.

Exactly why? If it was someone she knew then maybe it'd make sense but a taxi driver?
Plus why would that taxi driver be using the Iphone app at the exact time? Don't kill me but it still just sounds like an Iphone advert to me
