Possibly although Plebs wasn't a ratings failure. It did pretty well if I remember correctly and be reviews were good too. I can see it doing even better when it comes back.

Vicious I'm not so sure of. I get the feeling it might be a tarnished brand now and the second series may well do even worse than the first, as chances are it won't get such a plum slot. Depends what they pair it up with I guess.

Following on from BGT would give it the best slot, although if filming takes place later in the Autumn then perhaps a re-rejuvenated XF? Bar the first episode its a good laugh, but ITV need to push it, unfortunately the Xmas special has not been given a very good slot.

EastEnders had a major press event yesterday. Sounds very impressive by the sounds of things coming up in 2014, "some of the best storylines EastEnders has had in a long time" said head of BBC drama. Looks like EE will become the top soap and cement itself as the nation's favourite.
They say how they have big stuff planned right up until the 30th (Feb 2015) It seems all the big characters will all get huge storylines each.

There will be some changes to the show to bring it into the 21st Century it says in the interview.

From xmas day and beyond some of the best episodes of EastEnders for a long time and features high drama and humour.

2014 is going to be EastEnders year and that i am very sure of.

The interview is a very good read and shows how he and the BBC feel about the show.

The show will be dark and daring :)

ITV2 comedy 'Plebs' has won a 3rd award, this time from last night's Comedy Awards on Ch4 as Best New Comedy.

Third award for Plebs? What were the other two? And its Best New Comedy win was announced before the British Comedy Awards ceremony in the nominations show.

Downton Abbey to end next year as stars ditch the show for Hollywood: http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/downton-abbey-ending-itv-period-2920958

Fantastic news for BBC One and the other terrestrials. Sunday nights should become much easier in Autumn 2015 onwards with Downton gone. If Itv continues with it beyond 2014 with a poorer cast, the quality of the show will take a big dip.

Unless ITV announce it, don't believe it.

I imagine Downton will probably become specials after series 5, I imagine while that Fellowes and ITV would be able to keep it going that way rather than 9 episodes a year.

All pure speculation though, it even says; ITV said: there's NO plan to end the show in 2014.

In fact the last sentence makes the article completly pointless. :D

Normally I would agree, but that writer is known to have good sources and often breaks the big tv stories. If it was totally made up then it would have no byline.

The Last sentence is just ITV comment/spin.

I would think that two episodes a year would work perfectly for Downton, if they produced two one hour episodes. You could have the first episode play out on The X Factor final night - end it with a huge cliffhanger, and then show the second part on Christmas Night.

Apart from Elizabeth McGovern it is ridiculous for anyone else in DA to assume the show will win them fame and fortune in Hollywood, better talent has went over there and failed miserably and returned scampering home.

On a seperate note what's the prediction for the Mandela borefest on Sunday? Anything more than two million will be a surprise, when it comes to event status he just does not have the Diana factor to draw in the numbers.

I hope whatever ITV shows smacks the nonsense into oblivion.

Bob's Full House was Monkhouse at his peak of quiz show hosting duties. It looked effortless. I was 12/13 and in awe of how funny, quick and slick he was. Every reworking that followed couldn't match BFH for excellence. One of the best quiz shows ever in my opinion.

Bob said they did 37 different variations of the format before they settled on the final one. In the 1984 Christmas Radio Times he talks about its success, saying it was very important they got it right to avoid "Oh dear, Auntie's playing bingo!" comments, so it needed to be "upbeat, healthy and not at all sleazy".

I remember watching One To Win every week because I'd watch any old rubbish in those days - I'd watched every episode of Fast Friends a few months earlier. I used to like Andrew O'Connor but it was a rubbish show, I remember the set was absolutely horrible, a garish blue and orange affair. That's the bit that stuck with me most.
Not bad for Lucan last night, similar to what 'The Town' got last year in that slot.

Shouldn't be congratulating it on doing as well as The Town, because by the end of it The Town was a disaster, it went under two million, didn't it?

A state funeral, a "borefest" and "nonsense".

Yes its a total borefest, celebrating the life of a terrorist. I'd say the same if it was Adams , McGuinness or any of the loyalist ilk over here. BBC share will tank on Sunday and I hope that the BBC learn from this debacle.

As the BBC finds itself in a funding squeeze it is not acceptable to waste money on this nonsense, if SABC cannot afford to fund its coverage then why should LF resources be used to help them, let's not forget SABC cannot account for almost 1.5 billion rand and if it was the other way round I'm pretty sure SABC LF payers would feel aggrieved as well.

I agree with NeilVw. I think the critics almost feel sorry for Itv that they have so few sitcoms so some of the awards they have been giving shows like Vicious is to encourage them to make more comedies. I dont think Vicious won on merit but more on sympathy value.

You've come up with some crackpot theories in your time Samuel but this one takes the biscuit...

The tape-checked figures are a bit better:

    EE 6.89m (33.1%)
    ED 6.53m (33.1%) / 6.07m (27.5%)

    Soap Ratings

EastEnders was Thursday evening's (December 12) top-rated soap as Ronnie's concern over Roxy continued, overnight figures show.

6.89m (33.1%) watched at 7.30pm on BBC One as Ronnie bought three one-way tickets to Ibiza after learning of Roxy's worrying fling with Carl. BBC Three's repeat screening secured 496k (3.3%) at 10.30pm.

Emmerdale appealed to 6.53m (33.1%) at 7pm on ITV and 131k (0.6%) on +1 as Charity ordered Jai to choose between her and Archie, while 6.07m (27.5%) returned at 8pm and 290k (1.3%) on +1 as Jai made his decision.

Hollyoaks brought in 1.04m (5.5%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4 as the walls began to close in on Sienna, while a dramatic E4 first look followed with 789k (4.0%) at 7pm and 158k (0.7%) on +1.

    Over on Channel 5, Neighbours attracted 579k (9.1%) at 1.45pm and 883k (5.7%) at 5.30pm, while Home and Away mustered 228k (3.4%) at 1.15pm, 652k (3.7%) at 6pm and 385k (2.0%) for 5*'s first look at 6.30pm.

Elsewhere, the latest episode of Doctors was seen by 1.38m (21.7%) at 1.45pm on BBC One

A bit better then the non tape checked ratings. Still a little low for all soaps though must be people where out Christmas shopping.
