I enjoy his shows, get bored of endless LBC heated debates and arguments, nothing wrong with a bit of general chit chat.

General chit chat, yes. But the same old same old over and over again?
Thank goodness for the off button.

O'Brien has only recently started putting too much emphasis on the "t" in the middle of words like little and frightened.

    Odd.

Does anyone know a reliable Cooper?

Probably more than you can be forgiven for imagining. Hopefully more than you know about my schooldays - we were NOT 50 to a class, did NOT endure flogging AND certainly did not leave school at 13.

So caning didn't happen at your school? Liberal headmaster was it?

And OK, you obviously left school at 14. Semantics.

Wrong on both counts, I'm afraid. Want to have another go?

So Gove said to Iain Dale he doesn't know how much his salary is. Really?

Yes. What would we know about anything? One we've had our 60th birthday we should be given a euthanasia pill or, if it's cheaper, a bullet in the back of the head. Would that make you happier?

Yes, my biggest annoyance when older callers call into LBC is when they say their age. "I'm 83 i am" when its not remotely relevant to the convosation. I used to like the way Iain Lee used to deal with it "and... Your point" or "Good for you"

It never fails to amaze me the what people will criticise James O'Brien for doing.

It was more of an observation on this odd recent change. Gobber has admitted in the past that he changes his accent when talking to those of the lower class and those of the upper class.

But it IS irritatiing - him sounding like a four year old.

I know that many of you will say why do I listen to him, Steve Allen, that is but the fact is that these light mornings I often tune into him for say about an hour maximum.
To be honest I find him and his programme rather distasteful now and feel that he must come away from it rather sullied having spewed out such nastiness for over 2 hours.
I know that I can no longer listen to him for long periods and to think that I used to hang on his every word back in the 'good old days' when he occupied daily slots and had interesting guests and especially his Saturday night out, reviewing restaurant food etc.

I don't know whether it's entirely his own fault, the management's or the ageing process/illnesses that have resulted in this detioration but I no longer find him amusing, enlightening etc. Perhaps he is very clever and what we hear is a very clever and well honed act but I find it makes rather unpleasant listening.:(

If I were the management, I would insist that he takes calls and refusal so to do would lead to dismissal.

except SA show is brain death. its funny for a while then it just becomes the same uneducated rubbish

if he could chat with knowledge it would be ok, but a lot of it is factually wrong or incorrectly applied. he doesnt read out corrections (except insults anyone writing in with the facts) and just goes through the motions... of which his show is the audio equivalent

he gets away with it because his audience largely doesnt want "taxing" or "depressing" stories and would likely be happy if someone in a happy camp voice read out the 1964 telephone directory... something familiar and repetitive.

    Okay. I won't tell you that I'm 127 then. :p

Yep, you're right. I recall when he moved to Chiswick his accent was suddenly upgraded and noted by posters on here at the time. For instance the word, 'actually' suddenly had emphasis by J O'B, he announced it, 'AccKertually', almost making a guttural feast out of it by spitting 'vocals' - like phlegm down the radio - not nice :D. A stupendous middle/upper class accent was miraculously adopted with the change of 'location', please note. Yet subsequently within two shakes of a lamb's tail his accent can change back to something more homely/middle/ lower class even, when he wants to appeal to the general public, pending his mood and topic of course! What a juvenile type of delinquency in order to appease listeners seems to take precedence by 'our' presenter? Time he should grow up, hasn't he had plenty of opportunity by now?

He's referred to on his Legend FB page as Our Leader or the Master! Takes all sorts, I guess. :D

With Gove being the new media spokesman what is the betting he gets a slot on LBC??

Thinking after the election, when Hague is no longer an MP, he and Ken L might make an interesting pairing?

Don't shoot the messenger I was simply quoting Foxtons data for the average house price in Chiswick. By finding several houses below the average you simply demonstrate the limitations of using the arithmetic mean for ANY purpose. I could no doubt find you houses in Chiswick for £2m or £3m to prove the point the other way.

Either which way, I can't see JOB in any of those you suggested. I have him down as a Victorian townhouse type of socialist, three bedrooms and room for a rocking horse in the bay window. Supposition of course but I like to indulge myself about how the other half live just as he does. Except we're talking different halves.

this is delayed as i was heavily involved in organising a big vehicle show at weekend but as up early I caught a little bit of in conversation with Sinitta.....OMG......

i was in  of laughter...... a small sample... "and when we joined this business" "people don't know who aren't in the business like us  how hard touring is"
and this was what tipped me over the edge...I thought I was still dreaming.......

because you have to stay in in your room...you can't go shopping and be seen around the town...I used to lock myself in my room before a gig so as not to spoil the magic...... if people saw you and recognised you before it ruined it" :o:o:o

he didn't really say that.... surely....

hey I paraphrased a little as I haven't actually relistened to it but that was the gist.....

what business is Steve in? Do his guests know they are in the "same business" as him?
Who would actually recognise him before a "gig" or afterwards or anytime and would it really spoil the evening for them??

Silly deluded old goat has probably already got his room booked for Brinsworth, for when he retires from 'the business'. The business of tittle-tattling, that is.

I actually think Stewie is a pretty sad figure really. I've noticed in photos where he's with other people he's sort of clutching onto them as if to say, "this is my friend". I hope I'm wrong, it's sad for anyone to be lonely.

Definitely poor old Cristo. It concerns me when he talks about his "bad choices" when on holiday and such.

Steve Allen was talking about Clitheroe again this morning; it's had quite a few mentions on his show in recent months. He said it "sounds lovely" so he's not all bad.

I know several Welsh Tory supporters who do this. It's far more prevalent than you think.

It's a comedy/gossip radio show where the host enjoys winding people up including forum members, no one expects it to be LBC's 4am version of newsnight.

JOB just got well and truly owned by Esther McVey.

He tried the usual snide tricks, such as throwing in an unsupported point then trying to move on without giving her chance to respond but she wasn't having it.

    Whipped!

She'd probably been briefed by IDS! At least you can't accuse him of sexism. He's an uncouth bully, regardless of the gender of the politician with whom he doesn't agree.

    Morning all. :)
