Even with a year left on Kroos's contract, the fact that he cost less in actual money than Shaw is still crazy stuff.
No, it isn't.
It's fairly basic economics. Besides, if Kroos was as amazing as you're making out, do you not think that Bayern would have given him the contract that he wanted?

Kroos really is amazing though. He actually showed that he is, unlike Shaw who is on a completely different planet in terms of ability and track record and could turn out to be a huge flop. I don't know what went on at Bayern, but my guess is he wanted to play for Real Madrid like most players dream of doing.

He wanted his wages doubled and Bayern decided he wasn't worth that much. They offered him a contract based on what they thought he was worth and he rejected it. Now he's moved to Real Madrid so he can get his big wage increase.

Fair enough, that's Bayern being stupid in my view. I expect them to do badly this season in the CL anyway.

On what planet is Kroos 'amazing'?
He's an excellent player, but you're making him out to be the Maradona of his generation.
Shaw could turn out to be a wonderful signing. Why are you so quick to write him off? I've seen nothing but huge praise, from Southampton fans.
Indeed. Had United signed an 18 year old German prospect at LB, I suspect a lot more people would be excited to see how he gets on. As it is, whenever someone signs an English player, there's a lot of cynicism.
I can't remember the last time a top 7 team signed an English player and the majority thought it'd be a terrific bit of business. The majority of them tend to work out. Sturridge, Henderson, Cahill, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain. All working out so far.
There seems to be a certain stigma attached that English players are rubbish and not worth a lot of money.
You win or lose as a team, winning the World Cup is great, but it doesn't make someone better than they actually are, if they are a very good player they aren't suddenly world class if they help their country to the World Cup. Same with any international tournament, were Greece all top players after Euro 2004?
Players are judged on more than just up to seven appearances for their country every four years also, if you can't understand why he was valued at what he was then maybe just stick to international football.
I understand why Kroos was valued at what he was, but I don't understand why Shaw was valued at what he was.
I really can't be bothered going into detail, in short though Southampton turned down a £27M bid a couple of months ago, they would rather have kept him than sell for anything less than they deem to be his valuation. It's not like he's got no experience either, he was the left back in the premier league team of the season.
I understand why Kroos was valued at what he was, but I don't understand why Shaw was valued at what he was.
Its pretty clear to see why Shaw costs that money.
At 19 you get 13 potential years (before decline) at a position that is probably the hardest to fill in world football.
He is proven in the Premiership already.
He is homegrown.
His potential is huge, how many more left backs were as good as him at 19?
If you are looking for alternatives at left back or wing back as it seems, who else is there? Rodriguez off Wolfsburg possibly.
Why not pay that thirty million for a player who has proved he can do it for more than one season? Otherwise we would have to pay the highest market value for teenagers after one season, much higher than proven players in the league at he age of say 26 and about to be in their prime. When you think about it, it's madness.
That potential has apparently turned up unfit, and is now training away from the main squad!

Its not madness at all. Who is this world class 26 year old left back that is available for 30 million or less?
Chelsea didn't sign Shaw, therefore Codeblue will look to get digs in about him all the time.
Standard behaviour.
I'm just waiting for this magical 26 year old world class left back that wants to leave his current club and go to Manchester United.
If he is a Chelsea supporter then his argument is invalid. Jose has to sign a 29 year old left back who is not world class. The left back position last season was filled by a right back. Left backs are few and far between.

So what if United spent a lot of money on Shaw, they can spend what they like, just like what Chelsea used to do.
Why does it bother you so much, touch of the green eyed monster maybe.
You like far too many people and far too many different teams.
Country: Italy (if Italy out: Netherlands)
Club: Bayern Munich, although I used to be much more of a fan when I lived in Germany. I don't really like any other clubs. I used to dislike Chelsea with great passion, but Drogba and Mourinho have grown on me. I now dislike them only a little bit.
I like many Italian and Dutch players and can appreciate the talent of other nations, although I don't particularly care about them. Not impressed with English youth or "potential" at all.

Nah, he rates himself too highly. Goes missing way too often to be earning what the likes of Robben and Ribery get.

He isn't German, Italian, or Andrea Pirlo.

Don't forget I also like the Dutch and I have a soft spot for Ronaldo (both the original and the other one).
Maybe people think German players a better because they just won the World Cup and England only managed 1 point?
Kroos is no Maradona obviously, but he is a great player who proved to be vital for Germany in this WC.

A players value is whatever a buying team are willing to pay, and the selling team are happy to accept. Simple.

Yep, you're right there. Codeblue, the Queen of double standards
