[QUOTE=Keyser_Soze1;74471635These f****s should have been brought to justice far sooner. The authorities have royally screwed up here because they did not want to appear to be 'racist'.[/QUOTE]
If you read the full report, I think you'll find that that is only a tiny part of the problem.
There was a bullying and macho culture among senior officers at the council, flawed risk assessment techniques, a tendency among police and children's services staff to regard the behaviour of abused children as "deviant" rather than a symptom of abuse and a litany of administrative cock-ups that meant that no-one was checking that agreed follow-up actions were actually carried out.
Grim reading, and horrific to think that 50 years or more after the murder of Maria Colwell, child protection work is still a bloody shambles in some councils.
But this was not about marriage, it was rape and abuse.
The men already in prison are British born with Pakistani parents. Those men were brought up in this country so KNEW it was wrong.
If these men had committed such crimes against children of their own community, they'd have been lynched.
Pakistani girls were targeted.
From the official report.
Quote:
"One of the local Pakistani women's groups described how Pakistani-heritage girls were targeted by taxi drivers and on occasion by older men lying in wait outside school gates at dinner times and after school. They also cited cases in Rotherham where Pakistani landlords had befriended Pakistani women and girls on their own for purposes of sex, then passed on their name to other men who had then contacted them for sex. "
Quote:
There was too much reliance by agencies on traditional community leaders such as
elected members and imams as being the primary conduit of communication with the
Pakistani-heritage community. The Inquiry spoke to several Pakistani-heritage
women who felt disenfranchised by this and thought it was a barrier to people coming
forward to talk about CSE. Others believed there was wholesale denial of the problem
in the Pakistani-heritage community in the same way that other forms of abuse were
ignored. Representatives of women's groups were frustrated that interpretations of
the Borough's problems with CSE were often based on an assumption that similar
abuse did not take place in their own community and therefore concentrated mainly
on young white girls
I think it was one reason, but it certainly wasn't the only one. Reading the report the attitude of the authorities - especially the police and council 'leaders' was that these girls were simply not important, or were consenting or were lying.
There's a reference in the report to a detective saying that an 11 year-old wasn't abused (or possibly wasn't exploited, can't recall exactly) because the sex was "consensual", ffs.
Why on earth that officer was working in CSE with attitudes like that is beyond me.
Just heard Shaun Wright, the police commissioner. He's not going to resign because he feels he's best placed to investigate now that he's been made aware of the scale of abuse which came as a huge shock to him...
He shouldn't be given the option to resign . Instant dismissal is called for here and a new commissioner appointed who believes in law ENFORCEMENT.
Shaun Wright is a ludicrous human being and it couldn't be more clear there is something very, very rotten in the South Yorkshire police force. They need an external inveistagion and sackings, with Shaun Wright being pushed first.
Do you honestly believe any individual who needs to " learn the lesson " that it is a moral and professional dereliction of their duty to ignore violent and sexual abuse of young girls because of the ethnicity of the perpetrators, should be employed in any capacity with a duty of care for children ?
No I don't, but the failings went way beyond that - and the report goes into great detail about them. That some of the people involved cite a 'fear of being branded a racist' as a reason for their inaction is just one of the many things that contributed to the problem

Quite - and other similar reports of those involved dismissing the allegations because the girls were 'untrustworthy' or 'promiscuous' or involved with drugs and drink. The attitude of people in authority to those vulnerable children was no better than that of the men who abused them... both groups thought the girls were not worth caring about.

Well they said anyone could become a PCC and this certainly demonstrates that. The man is a disgrace.
The elephant in the corner of the room that the media arent focusing on is the fact that only this handful of men have been prosecuted, yet these girls were trafficked to and raped by literally thousands of other pakistani men around the country.
The problem in their community is simply massive and still ongoing.
Just saw Jack Dromey on newsnight desperately deflecting the point made to him that labour and a great many on the left knowingly turned their faces away from this for years.
If I hear one more slimey blame dodger use the phrase lessons will be learned I'll puke.

Great post - I watched Newsnight and had to turn over it pissed me off so much. >:(
Well they said anyone could become a PCC and this certainly demonstrates that. The man is a disgrace.
People like him literally make me feel sick.
The fact he hasn't resigned right away and doesn't appear to be showing any shame whatsoever for his horrific failures is the final insult to the victims and to any person who is a remotely decent human being.
I am virtually certain that this is wrong, but I don't know enough about either State or Federal law to categorically state that it's wrong.
I have emailed three friends in New York City for guidance, two are attorneys, one a defence specialist, one a prosecutor, the third is a judge in Manhattan's Children's Court.
Watch this space!
Really, this is way off thread now, everyone is quite rightly commenting on what happened in Yorkshire, and maybe still is.
I just had a bee in my bonnet about the poster who alleged that a U.S. judge could, of his own volition, have a trial where the accused is alleged to have committed a capital offence, switched from a state that doesn't have the death penalty, to one that has.
I had a reply today from a New York judge, (state, not federal), who thought that I was joking, she said that the very idea wasn't just unconstitutional, it was preposterous.

Well, thanks for clearing things up, my mum, who told me in the first place that where the accused is alleged to have committed a capital offence, switched from a state that doesn't have the death penalty, to one that has will be pleased to be corrected.

I did bring it up earlier.
These girls were passed around between family members and members of the same community.
In other words, everybody knew who everybody was in all of these cases.
So why have so few been prosecuted, as you rightly say?
Why haven't the police been putting out high profile appeals for witnesses to come forward?
Why haven't the police been investigating and building cases against all known associates?
The few that have been prosecuted so far smacks of tokenism, and I fear the vast majority have got away scott free.

Jack Dromey being Harriet Harman's poor husband. She has been strangely quiet on this subject, hasn't she?.

Those are very good points in fact. Famous people and historical offences - they are named and have loads of publicity because they are suspected to have multiple victims and if they come forward, justice for them is more likely.
Well these Pakistani and similar gangs are KNOWN to have multiple victims so why aren't all those suspected of these offences being named in the media, to encourage victims to come forward? Just like with Savile and the rest.
Why the hell not? Because these gang offences appear to be far more serious than some of those perpetrated by some of the celebrities who have been named publicly before being charged. Unless the authorities take the bull by the horns and start naming names, how do they expect to ever find all the victims, successfully prosecute more offenders and most important of all, start to stamp it out?

The lack of action and attitudes from the South Yorkshire police force and anyone else in the know over this shows just how awful corruption is in this country and that us "little people" are held in absolute contempt by the self-serving bastards who are meant to be protecting us.
It makes me so, so angry that they'll go after easy targets like celebrities over a certain age but leave those who are the most dangerous threat of all to roam freely on the streets because they are so cowardly they don't want to rock any boats. Rocking the boat is what the police force, social service, and anyone with government connections should be all about, FFS.
When did people become such snivelling little drips!
Is being labelled a racist really that scary? So scary that you would look the other way when kids are being abused? Bollox, there's more to it than that.>:(
13 years of Nu Labour rule and the ever increasing strange hold of the EU have made people feel that way, for sure. It's still cowardly and disgusting of those who put this fear above protecting the children they were supposed to though - utterly indefensible.

They would say that wouldn't they. I think it maybe just another excuse for ignoring child abuse where children are vulnerable and have nobody to stick up for them.

Precisely. And that Yasmin Qureshi woman mentioned in Martian's post above should be sacked immediately. It doesn't surprise me at all that she's a Labour MP.

And don't forget to set aside a large wad of cash, for the inevitable 'unfairly dismissed' claim.
