men should wear normal cotton plain black socks with their trainers(Nike elite, air max type etc)I think that looks really nice.I hate trainer socks on men as well as sandals. My OH bought some trainer socks but I confiscated them. With my plain white vans I wear invisible socks.
Ankle socks unless you like your trainers to stink. But If you really must go sockless (and have stinky feet), at least make sure you legs are bronzed first.
It would only take one member of a popular boy band to be pictured wearing socks and shorts (in an ironic way - obviously) for the fashion sheep to follow in their droves.

Yeah, like the time they started wearing skinny jeans. Of course we now think they look hilarious. It's funny how something that used to look cool suddenly doesn't.

But nowhere near as funny as that trend for wearing baggy jeans which claim a tenuous hold on the flabby folds of fat beneath the wearer's hips. In thirty years' time, when those kids see photos of themselves they'll nearly die of embarrassment.

Skinny jeans, baggy jeans..... Thats why we still have 501's ready to fall back on after silly fads.
My god, reading this thread I take it quite a lot of you haven't been out of the house in a while?!! Different types of socks are very fashionable at the moment...primarily normal white socks with shorts. Also different coloured socks and socks with patterns/designs on...again worn with shorts. Trainer socks haven't been in fashion for a long time...apart from maybe if you're wearing skinny jeans and don't want to wear socks. Nobody wears trainer/ankle socks with shorts now though...apart from maybe chavs and "brits abroad". Like someone else here said though, everything comes and goes...current fad is bandannas...everyone is wearing them.

Just because something is fashionable doesn't mean it looks good!
Why is it that people look stupid in some particular dress mode. If people feel more comfortable wearing socks with sandals and shorts of prefer Speedos to swim shorts then why not. Who decides what looks silly?
Types of dress that appear silly to me, like wearing heavy boots with a summer dress which I have seen many times, black tights with a light cotton dress in summer, bodies covered with piercings of tattoos, jeans with the legs too long so they drag on the ground. There are literally hundreds of fashions that one could say look silly to some people that appear perfectly normal to others.
I do not wear sandals or shorts but cannot see anything wrong with socks, shorts and sandals or trainers if that is what someone wants to wear.
So you're asking why people judge others on what they like to wear whilst making judgements about some people's clothing choices?
The whole point of trainer socks is that you can't see them so how do they "look ridiculous"?
Yes that's the point, but most of the time you can see them on people. I'm in my 20's and don't know anyone who would wear trainer socks. They're just not in fashion.

Yeah that seems to be the thing now but it is one fashion trend I find truly hideous.
Also, I think you have to be of a certain age to even consider this look as anyone over the age of 30 would look quite ridiculous IMO.
I still think "invisible" socks are the way to go. They elongate the leg and it's always sexy to show off a bit of ankle cleavage:cool:

There has been a huge opportunity missed here. Instead of that poxy ice bucket challenge (ooh - cold water on a hot summer's day), a sponsored shorts, sandals and mid-calf-length beige socks day would have been far more impressive.

And the type of legs?

These are brilliant. No socks means sweaty feet and sweaty trainers.

Of course, but shorts below the knee with trainer socks (or normal socks) just look rididculous.

But smelly trainers are?
Of course not. I never said they were.
Let's face it, "shorts below the knee" aka shorts that look like they belong to your dad, just look ridiculous - whatever you wear them with!
