Garrett obviously feels guilty about whatever happened to Molly so he may have just felt that and not wanted to defend himself on that point .
I don't think Molly was on the tape Tony looked at , it makes more sense that it was a boy , since a girl obviously looks different to a boy and Garrett seemed to know Tony was watching a scene with boy hence he says "thats not your son"

The only thing i found odd about the video is it's a bit of a coincidence that he just so happened to have that video in the camera.
I do remember Garrett saying i wouldn't play that if i were you and obviously Tony knew something awful was about to happen. you may be right it may not be Molly but it must have shown him abuse and kill a child, maybe Tony did put 2 and 2 together or it may have been Molly on the tape but it really doesn't make any difference to the facts. it was enough to know Garrett killed Molly and Garrett made no attempt to deny it.
People have sympathy of course, but as we have seen with some residents of Praia de luz (tearing down posters etc), patience wears thin after many years and people want to draw a line under matters.

One more clue I've spotted, although it doesn't solve anything: a few days after the abduction Emily says to Tony "Today would have been the last day of our holiday... blah blah... Ollie would be in the pool... I would have had to lure him away with ice cream." This ties in with the image in the title sequence of ice cream and red sauce splattered over a rock. I think prior to checking in at the hotel someone saw Ollie having his favourite ice cream in a public place and then offered him one near the pool bar that evening as part of the abduction (possibly laced with a drug).
As always, went back to watch this scene again. Emily also says something like' You and Ollie would have spent every day together in the pool' she almost sounds jealous! Maybe she lured Ollie away herself with an ice cream. I was wondering why there was an ice cream in the opening sequence, sometimes I think the opening sequence frames are all clues of some sort.
That all takes us back to the involvement of the Mayor and other bigwigs. Would they just order a cover-up because Garrett was financing the Mayor's election campaign ? Seems a stretch to me, when Garrett's activities involved the abuse and murder of children.
But we know from the current real-life inquiries going on in the UK that practically anything is possible. It was actually the threat (or bluff of a threat) by Baptiste to talk to Malik that forced the Mayor to open the inquiry again.
I think when everyone comes together and shares the information they have the truth will be clear. But at the moment, even the "innocent" have something to lose.
It does look far fetched that forensics couldn't find anything but as i say we dont have to speculate any decent investigation would have caught Tony. cleaning up the blood wouldn't have helped even in 2006.
It's also very hard to believe all the tapes didn't make it a national investigation, checking who the children were on the tapes, i really dont think anyone could stop an investigation but as you say we only have to look at child abuse in this country, they reach a certain level and nothing happens.
I think it's more likely that the police have DNA and fingerprints but they just haven't got a match.

I think we'll find the tapes contain historic child abuse. I would suspect that, like most of the rest of us, paedophiles will be using digital recordings nowadays. Perhaps Vincent and Monique. Although I did wonder if James may be one one just because he looks so similar to Ollie and Garrett had to tell Tony the tape in the camera wasn't Ollie.

I thought the same, until Seig wanted the money for this bribe for info that could easily be nothing, Mark and Emily were trying to put Tony off and trying to convince him he had nothing valid. it surprised me that Emily agreed with them having nothing more than the scarf and pic on the wall didn't warrant a new investigation, as a mother surely she should have been raising hell and demanding the investigation be reopened if there was the slightest chance that this could lead to Ollie. Also, Malik says 'I know what you did Emily, you and Tony', he emphasises Emily's name as if they both did something, maybe two separate things.
I think Emily is just protecting herself from getting hurt again. It's hinted at at some stage that she had a breakdown. Think she's too scared to get her hopes up again all for it to lead to nothing.

I think you can compare Garretts wife to Maxine Carr. covering up for someone she believes is innocent, she may have covered up for her husband believing he was treated awful by the police when Molly disappeared and now there after him because Ollies been abducted as well.

I've re watched first 4 episodes and reviewed the Malik scenes again the last two episodes. Surprising what detail you miss.
In terms of the episodes the key messages for me are:
Unsolved case in Morocco - Charmantaines clearly Ziane/Malik are linked to this.
Baptiste says if Ollie not found immediately he won't be.
Someone you know someone with a grudge is usually involved.
James mistaken for Ollie - twice.
Baptiste asks Mark to be involved in investigation more than liaison job. (Does he know more about what job he has?)
Undercover cop immediately asked for Baptiste so he knew about gang being infiltrated due to job in Paris.
Mark present when 3pm transaction mentioned in warehouse. He asks what chance Ollie still alive if sex trafficking involved to Thailand. Gang were pre-warned.
Mark told about liaison at railway station with undercover cop at 8 pm. Who told gang?
Mark on scene to arrest Ziane.
Lastly Emily to Mark - Imagine if it was your son that had gone.
