Presumably they've been massively helped out by the BBC just not trying opposite it the last couple of weeks.
The football it faced last week did very well though, and two weeks ago when it also faced a New Tricks repeat it only got 6.2m, so there was clearly a lot of interest as that was a big swing upwards last night.

I have to say I switched it on for the first time this year last night and thought it was fairly poor particularly in comparison to what I saw of last year. Be interesting to see what series 3 does and whether ITV are willing to wait as long for it as they did series 2.
They'll have to wait for Olivia Colman since she's pregnant so Series 3 won't be until late next year or 2017.
I imagine series 3 will be the last since I cannot see them continuing the story further.
Not airing until 2016 but what a cast, it's a co-production between the BBC and The Weinstein Company so it's going to be large scale. 6 episodes seems low for W&P, I would have 8-10 episodes max. Lily James who is going to be starring in Cinderella has one of the lead roles.
You are right - it is a very low episode count. The 1970s BBC version was 26x50 minutes, and Radio 4 last month did a (quite truncated, but very good) 10x60 minute version. It was turned into single films in 1956 and 1968, though, so it is possible to do a speeded up version.
But to think that it is at least ten times longer as a book than The Hobbit, and that was turned into 3x3 hour movies!
No they should be averaging 10 to 11 million considering they are on bbc and itv which is the biggest channel in england.
Viewers tastes are changing. Younger people have grown up with CGI and dramas made on location, soaps largely made in a studio will look ancient. I think the audience who grew up with CS and EE will grow old with them.

I trust Andrew Davies will make it work for television, it's such a long book that cuts are inevitable.
Yes they should I don't want none of that excuse how there like 300 channels and how tv changing if something is good they will watch it. Also they are on the main channel so they should be averaging higher.
You are talking rubbish. Not just the soaps are down but TV as a whole. Over 1 million people watch EastEnders on I player which is not included. They are viewers not accounted for. I for one have Sky+ and watch little TV these days LIVE because i don't have the time. Not just TV has changed but people's lives in general.
Go away and have a think/Research And then we resume because clearly you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes. I player or any demand service is not accounted for.
Oh sorry i just research them I didn't know eastenders get over 1 million on iplayer

You see as i said TV has changed and the way people watched has changed. Tablet viewing was at it's highest ever last year and again those viewers are not included in to the ratings.
It is but it will change. There is talk of I player being included sometime this year i think.

What do you think eastenders adds all together when all is included.

On Demand services on Freesat, Freeview, Freetime, Sky, Virgin, YouView, PS3, Smart TVs, blu-ray etc. etc.is included.
BBC has a massive advantage as iPlayer is on almost all of those, whereas many don't have ITV Player, 4OD and Demand 5.
Brilliant figures overall,so looks like series 2 will outrate series 1.
It will certainly be very close. A terrific performance to do that against stronger opposition and after a further two years of general audience declines. Once again, ITV is not dead yet despite what some say....
I have to say that, even having enjoyed a lot of recent episodes, it's about time. The show just isn't the same any more - it should have ended after series 8 (which was the last with the original team intact) but they've let it die a long and painful death, which is sad for one of the most consistently popular shows the BBC has had. It's an even bigger kick in the teeth that they've just cast Larry Lamb (which I feel is the best decision they've made since the original cast were chosen), so for all we know his addition might round off the new team in the way that old Dennis couldn't.

Masterchef starts Tuesday 10th at 9pm (hour-long), Wednesday at 7.30pm (hour-long) and Thursday at 7.30pm (half-hour.)
EastEnders airs Tuesday as normal, then Wednesday at 8.30pm and Thursday at 8pm (hour-long.)
Tuesday is fine, and is what I said could happen earlier. I suppose Wednesday's scheduling has some kind of logic behind it too, they can't exactly put EE against Corrie, but Thursday's is a little harder to understand. Yes, EE avoids the 15 minute Emmerdale clash, but I think it being out of slot would hurt it more, they should have just had EE in its regular slot for an hour with Masterchef at 8.30pm.
Poldark is, as expected, down for Sunday 8th March, 9pm.

Exteriors maybe, but how many interiors are not in a studio?
Brookside and I assume Hollyoaks (never watched it), but others?
I agree, EE attracts much more younger viewers than Corrie and Emmerdale.
Series 2 (2015)

That is shocking, BARB are so out of touch!

Ninja Warrior
The toughest obstacle course on television is coming to ITV this spring!
The show kinda works on American telly, from what I've seen of the US version on Challenge.
I can't see it working over here though.

They've finally given the old dog the bullet.

Oh come on, how silly does this sound.
