casting has confirmed a variety of new characters including the original Flash Jay Garrick, Wally West and the big bad will be Professor Zoom.
During the Warner Bros. Television panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, it was revealed that actor Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex) will be portraying Jay Garrick in the upcoming season. Additionally, Shantel VanSanten (The Messengers) has been cast as Detective Patty Spivot, a relatively new character from the comics who will be partnering up with Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin).
Executive Producer Greg Berlanti also revealed that the new season will be picking up a few months after the events of the Flash season one finale. There will be a lot of new faces as the series picks up, with the eventual introduction of characters from Earth-Two. Andrew Kriesberg, another executive producer on the series, revealed that the villain of season two will be Professor Zoom and that Wally West (Kid Flash) will be introduced this season.

Awwwww, I wanted Season 2 to pick up right where Season 1 left off. I want to see what happened with the wormhole.
I think there will be Arrow style flashbacks.
I think that the story will be Barry closed the wormhole but didn't come out of it not here anyway and has been missing for months.
Cisco will then use his new found powers to see which alternate universe Barry is in.
Side note I also think that is how Supergirl will crossover later Barry will go to her world.
I don't think there is likely to be a The Flash/Supergirl cross over even if both channels are owned the same parent company.
No doubt that Earth also has their own sets of heroes and villains too? Who are they?
Good to see they're casting not one, not two, but three more speedsters (two in red, and one in yellow); I guess each Earth has to have their own version of a yellow speedster, right?
I an inclined to agree with Cadiva here. Flash and Arrow have that same feel about it; the Supergirl show has a very different feel. Not too sure it would work.
Professor Zoom being the big bad completely slipped me by though.
Yes it's alternative timelines basically. So a bit like the trousers of time theory that, at any given point an action can split off down a number of different pathways each which exist in parallel to the others but aren't connected.
I kinda was hoping he would remain evil because he was amazing last season just as he was.
Sisco will probably be using his powers this year too then.
We don't know but I would think probably yes if they're going down the alternative timelines. However, he was a great "good guy" (when he was helping Barry out with things) as well as a brilliant bad guy so I'm just glad they've managed to keep Tom Cavanagh on the show full stop.
I don't think Flash and Arrow have the same feel to them at all. Flash is much more comic-booky and light hearted in tone than Arrow.
Supergirl would fit the tone of Flash much better than Arrow does.
I know Arrow is suppose to be darker than Flash, but both shows are brilliant in their own way; I always get the feeling they've got a good group of people behind them. When I watched the Supergirl Pilot, it felt... tacky. It was the first episode, and the show has the potential to grow, but (unlike Flash and Arrow), the Supergirl show didn't really give the character time to evolve; one minute she wasn't, then the next she was. Least with Arrow and Flash, they didn't start out as the people they've become.
I've said before, but the Supergirl pilot was too convenient, and too wrapped up. It should have been a two-part episode or something, with Kara getting her costume right at the end.
See, I knew I should have stayed out of a US Pace thread!
I haven't seen the Supergirl pilot >:(
I think that which shows suit a crossover best would be far more about tone and, to me, the tonality differences between Arrow and Flash really don't mesh very well. I've only seen the supergirl trailer but I still think they'd be a better match. They both have superpowers whereas Arrow tends to be more grounded in reality.
Without going into too much detail and in the hope of not spoiling for you any further, she does have her powers from the beginning, it's a badly worded explanation of what happened really.
However, in terms of crossover potential, I do agree with Flash. There isn't really the same type of "reality" in terms of world placement, connectivity between National City and Starling City/Central City. They reference Metropolis only in passing, not by name, and don't ever once actually refer to her cousin by his superhero name.
I can't see Supergirl crossing into either The Flash or Arrow.
I've decided to watch Arrow now and see if I can get into that as I enjoyed the cross over episode and I have to see more of Felicity, she really made me laugh.
Not necessarily, however
Indeed.
That is what I mean if Flash can jump from universe to universe it's possiable one day he will end up in Supergirls universe.
Earth 2 is coming into it so she maybe from Earth 4-5 or whatever.
Left out Earth 3 because that is where evil versions of the heroes live.
Superman is Ultraman.
Batman is Owlman
Flash is Johnny Quick.
Ect
I can see us getting good Barry vs evil Barry
I'd be surprised if they went down the Earth 3 route to be honest, it's ridiculously complicated and most viewers, unless they're die hard comic fans, won't have a clue who the characters are supposed to be.
I do agree with you; too much of this will get hugely confusing for a tv series. I can only hope the writers know what they're doing, and that they've planned this out with their own set of rules etc.
Having characters appearing from an Alt Universe is surely simpler than the main timeline being changed to introduce these characters.
If they are from an Alt Universe they can always go back to their own Universe at the end of the episode/story arc. If however they were introduced by the main timeline being altered then to get rid of them you'd have to have the Timeline changed back to the original version again.
Plus as you say Flash is linked to other shows. Having someone appear from another Universe in Flash (before going back again) would have little effect on the other shows, changing the Timeline all the shows share would have a far greater effect.
