Is it true he is taking over Watchdog?

Well the thinking is he becomes some sort of roving reporter or something - no idea personally tbh .

No, he isn't. I get the impression he'll be doing occasional pieces, which he can no doubt fit in with his LBC show and Newsnight gigs. He seems to be operating on the sensible freelance principle of get the work when you can, while you can,.

Ah right. Good thing that you are able to mind read from listening to the same show that I do but you can obtain so much more information

Maybe it's because I monitor the shows with an open but critical mind rather than blindly following the supercillious champagne socialist claptrap that has made Brian such a figure of fun around these, and many other, parts?

Same with the wife. She's so desperate to immortalise herself on video that she started her own YouTube channel. The desperation of the pair of them is palpable.

Glad to see the same disdain for O'Brien on here as I read elsewhere . The man is the worst example of Presenter/Caller interplay I have ever heard , a truly awful example of the genre

Will Brian speak in his Mockney affectation if he is forced to talk to a tradesman or someone from the lower orders?

Gawd help us. Here we go again. Old Nick F helping out his mates again.

This time making Nigel Farage resident history expert.

I am so tired of Nick F buttering up to his favourites. I had to switch LBC off this morning.

    Couldn't stand it.

I agree. I normally love Ferrari's show but the way he said "Nigel Farrage invited me along" sounded like they were close personal friends!

I don't think James O'Brien is "a bad example" of the phone-in genre at all. I think that when a person calls O'Brien's show they need to prepare themselves for the fact that he might be a bit abrupt with them but he is usually only like this when the caller is talking rubbish. O'Brien is a master of arguing and some callers just can't cope with the way he runs his show. You have to make your point quickly and, if you don't agree with James, be prepared to have your opinion picked apart, so callers with opinions contrary to James' should be very sure of themselves before calling in.

James O'Brien's show is different and certainly not the friendliest on the station but once you listen to him for a while you get the measure of the man and as callers and listeners we just have to accept that that's the way he does things. As long as it makes a good show (which it usually does) then I have no issue with it.

So who has paid for the 18 years olds birth, education and welfare until he/she reaches the work pool?

Without me, there is no you.

    Without you, I'm fine.

Because 18 year olds have to pay for their own tuition and maintenance fees and are unable to claim most benefits, they largely pay for themselves.

On the other hand, older people would have had their education and social security paid for by previous generations. Older people are also largely reliant on younger people to fund their state old age pensions, pay for their health care and contribute to their social care whereas recent legislations means that in the future young people will have to make a bigger contribution to these areas themselves. Today's young people, in effect, will be paying twice whereas today's older generation will only have paid once. So if you're asking who will make the bigger contribution to public services over their lifetime, the answer is young people of today.

How many tuition fees are there between 5 and 18?

Apart from the money I have put in?

Welcome to the forum, I look forward to reading your comments in the future but I don't agree with the one you just made.

Personally, I would say Nick Ferrari is worse at interacting with callers. He talks over and mumbles under callers that he disagrees with before cutting them off before they can adequately make their point. In contrast, he gives a more or less a free reign to callers who agree with him and who are generally not challenged and given loads of airtime.

I would also say Cristo is worst because he is invariably poorly informed on topics he discusses and often trivialises serious points made by callers by a comparison to something that happened in Knots Landing, Prisoner Cell Block 8 or his own life.

James O'Brien is far from perfect but I don't think he is the worst at handling callers.

Who paid your tuitions fees from 5 - 18 and if you continued with your education beyond 18, who paid for that too?

Is this not a case of it's ok for my education to be paid for by the previous generation but I don't think I should pay for the education of the generation below me? Like I said in my pervious post, young people are effectively paying twice over compared with older people.

' I don't think James O'Brien is "a bad example" of the phone-in genre at all.'

I'm afraid that's exactly what he is . George Galloway is exactly the same

' I think that when a person calls O'Brien's show they need to prepare themselves for the fact that he might be a bit abrupt '

You mean condescending , patronising , superior , mocking , derisory , etc etc ..I would be happier if he was just abrupt .

'but he is usually only like this when the caller is talking rubbish. '

What if the caller isn't talking rubbish ? We'll never know , because he will cut them off, fade them out , talk over them and make sure his is the last words heard . It's the oldest of radio tricks . I wonder if he thinks he is fooling anyone ?

    'O'Brien is a master of arguing '

    Re above !

'and some callers just can't cope with the way he runs his show. '

Can't cope ? You mean can't be heard surely ?

'You have to make your point quickly '

No, you have to make HIS point quickly

'and, if you don't agree with James, be prepared to have your opinion picked apart,'

Wow ! Re-read what you just wrote . If you don't agree with OBrien , you must therefore be wrong . Has God lost his right hand man ?

' so callers with opinions contrary to James' should be very sure of themselves before calling in.'

Are you missus JoB in disguise ? You cannot be serious, surely not ?

'James O'Brien's show is different and certainly not the friendliest on the station'

I couldn't care a microscopic dot of dust for friendliness , in fact the angrier the caller , the more I listen up

' but once you listen to him for a while you get the measure of the man'

I have his measure , but I would get banned if I conveyed it to you here ..sorry

' and as callers and listeners we just have to accept that that's the way he does things.'

I have no choice as a radio listener ..that's academic

'As long as it makes a good show (which it usually does) then I have no issue with it.'

It only makes a frustrating show , especially for those callers who never get the chance to express how right they are and how wrong he is .
    Anyway , have a nice day !

You haven't quite got the hang of multi-quotes, have you? :D

In the right-hand corner below the post you want to reply to is the 'quote' icon. That's for replying to single posts. Next to it is another icon which you click on each post you want to quote until the final one, then you press 'quote. You will find all you chosen posts lined up ready for your replies.

Or you could just answer them one at a time!

Like I said in my pervious post, young people are effectively paying twice over compared with older people.

There are 10 times more (thanks to the eternal wisdom of Labour) , at least 1/2 of whom are of dubious academic ability - so yes , one has very good reason .

I agree with you about Cristo ( a truly appalling presenter ) but not OBrien . Ferrari's show is too convoluted , too many news items and topics to cram into one short slot . I think he shouldn't take calls at all , just read out the stories of the day ( many of which I would not give air time too ) , but JoB is the antithesis of engaging radio . His entire ethos is one of patronising, condescending smugness and superiority . His 20 minute monologues espousing his particular worldview before taking a call for eg are truly the stuff of cringing legend :o

This all started because 'tahiti' seems to think older people should not be able to vote.

Everyone contributes or has contributed in some way. There are plenty of much older people working and still paying income tax and contributing to the economy. The whole argument is ridiculous. No one age group contributes more than another.

You and tahiti are both talking that this is the only generation that has been screwed over ....

And if all of that wasn't enough he's started saying the phone number in a really annoying way, emphasising one number as if it's changed recently or something

Oh three four five, six oh six oh nine SEVEN three....

    What's that all about?
