I like M and S lose cheese scones, they are really nice, saying that it is pretty easy to make my own. that is the only reason I go into M&S. I do not think their products are any better than any other store to be honest, Waitrose is the same, pay more for the same thing. i been in our Waitrose once since it opened,
Tesco and Asda fresh food just isn't great ie. ready meals and meats. M&S does taste a lot better, if I can't get to a butcher for meat i'll go to M&S. I don't eat a lot of ready meals but they do lots of nice snacky things and pizzas. Their cheeses are really good and they have lots of new special little treats in every few weeks. They do have short dates but I wonder is that due to less preservatives.
I think it depends what you buy. Their fresh fish and meats, as well as ready meals tend to be better quality than other supermarkets but their tea and coffee for instance is no better than other supermarkets. In fact I'd say Sainsbury's Red Label tea bags are better than any that M&S do.
Their chocolate and biscuit selections are far superior to other supermarkets though, and the wine, although a little bit more expensive is pretty excellent too.
Marks' prices have become a lot more competitive, over the last couple of years. The cakes, and the in store bakery, can be a tad expensive but, as I do not eat cake, bread, etc this does not affect me.
One thing I do feel the powers that be, need to look at, is the dine in for £10 offer. I am vegetarian, and this offer is never on vegetarian meals. More importantly, though, I would use the offer, if I could choose what I want, such as two starters, two sides, two fruits, for example, as I don't eat main meals. Also, I would not be saving as much, as someone who went for a main course, a bottle of wine (I don't drink).
I agree about the short dates, though, on fresh foods. I like the healthy salads, and the two for £3 deal. But it isn't exactly cheap, if they have to be consumed within a couple of days.
M & S have the reputation of being a higher class store, whose shoppers are either upper working/middle class, are either stay at home housewives, or have well paid jobs, or are willing to pay more, for quality. Flowers, is a case in point. I can get a teeny weeny bunch of freesias from Morrisons, for £2, Marks for £4. Now this could be considered expensive but I have found flowers from M & S, and especially plants, do last longer.
I have had cause to go to Iceland, for fruit and, without meaning to sound snobbish, you see a different class of customer.
My preferred supermarket, btw, is Asda.
I think I'm fairly lucky here in central London in that I have all the main supermarkets and many specialist shops within easy walking distance (apart from Asda......for some reason there's no Asda near me)
So I'll quite often go to one shop for a specific thing then just have a look round while I'm there
At the minute I'll go to M&S in the next day or two to get a pack of their Frankfurters which are much nicer than the Herta ones that most supermarkets sell..........this is maybe a once a year foodstuff for me but I've just got 'the taste' for home made hotdogs with furters, fried onion, chilli sauce or mustard...........:p
Percy Pigs alone just make M&S Foodhall brilliant. Their sandwiches are a bit hit and miss, but the same could be said for all supermarkets on that front.
A large chunk of them are ready meals, but they tend to be nice ready meals. And they often have deals (e.g. three Italian meals for £7) which is still perhaps more expensive that the main supermarkets, but far tastier.
I normally just go to M&S for the cooked chicken (legs and drumsticks) and they are better than all the other supermarkets imo and even if they are a little more expensive (which is not always the case) they are worth it. Not a great fan of ready meals but had the lasagne and the cottage pie and they are both spot on.

M&S had just bought out their xmas range. They do a smoked salmon terrine with crostini pack which I have for my lunch. That and their mint truffles are my favourite things they do. It's a shame they don't do the smoked salmon pack all year round, I have to over indulge on it from now until xmas before it's removed again 😢
Not really a ready meal buyer but have in the past tried m&s food - soups and party food and found them bland.
However due to location, have started popping in for their baguette (they do the best supermarket baguettes) and as I wasn't well and didn't want to cook I bought their gastro range of steak & ale pies & chicken & leek pie (3 for 2). The steak pie was moist and had enough gravy, but the chicken pie was sublime- so unexpectedly delicious, flavour, juicy - I'd happily buy again.
Will try Christmas canapés
Their hazelnut belgian chocolate spread is lovely. I am not a huge fan of chocolate spread but a teaspoon of this with some warmed up soft fruit is beautiful.

Their fruit is delicious too

Don't worry, you might be able to afford nice things one day.

Ready meals are great. I always buy ones from the 'healthy' ranges (reduced fat and sugar) and I love them. ^_^
NOt hugely impessed by what I've had from M&S above any other supermarket really

Same here. I've bought stuff in there once and thought it was ok. Nothing that special.
I wasn't sure myself but they insisted exactly the same.
