    Wow massive. Quite a phenomenon.

I don't think it means though that the finale will be much up on last year. Its grown from last years series because it finished with a high rating.

I think it disperses the myth that ratings are down because ways of watching TV have changed. It proves my age old point that if the broadcasters show something worth watching, people will watch it. Lacklustre ratings suggests lacklustre programming. ITV will likely get stomping great ratings this year. If they are sensible and schedule meticulously around the Rugby World Cup, then it should pay off for them. If you create a decent schedule, people will watch.

BBC1 made a mistake of showing yet another nature programme after Bake Off. You only have to wait a few minutes and a nature programme will come along. Showing New Tricks after Bake Off might have been a good idea and perhaps In The Club which is returning, could have gone on Tuesdays.

For some reason it appears that the BBC wanted to kill off New Tricks. Showing it after Bake Off, may have given it a ratings boost over the number that they received on Tuesday, which would have then made it difficult for the BBC to shelve a popular programme - perhaps.

The producer said that they brought it forward quite recently. So perhaps the Rugby was a consideration. It does however make for great summer viewing, but first week of September would have been a fantastic opportunity to draw viewers in for the autumn following the summer.

That's where I would have put it or October. Rugby looks to be messing up the schedules up to October though.

The only problem is it encourages them to keep doing more Benefits shows. Anything with 'benefits' in the title seems to be a winner for them.

Yes, I didn't think about that. You'd like to think Channel 5 would take encouragement from the ratings for Ben Fogle's documentary series doing so well.

Folks watch what they want to watch and nothing else. The days of putting tv on and looking for something to watch on are dying out quickly. The Royle Family set up just doesn't exist these days. OK it was exaggerated but the concept of one television in house always on isn't a reality.

There are some 1645 match starts which is going to scupper some of their reliable shows. Things like The Chase are going to be dropped, which will in turn boost Pointless and BBC News. I don't know how popular the Rugby will be on ITV. It will bring in a good demo for them with some very advertiser friendly niche sectors. I guess they do have ITV 4 to show some of the lesser ones, but then without pay tv, viewers will be left watching smudgyvision.

If home nations do well then people will watch the Rugby. If home nations do not do well, then ITV wo t be watched as much. Never have ITV been hoping a good performance from England and Wales as now!!!

    Even though you predicted 5.5-6.0m?

Emmerdale did very well. I don't think it would have got to 7m in August when it hasn't done it since February last year, stunt or no stunt. It got a 35.7% share.

I kind of agree, but how often do broadcasters fill the sxmchedules with must see programmes these days? If the broadcasters made the effort perhaps with of us could be proved right?

I was flicking the channels last night and 5 had a benefits show with another one following, and 5+24 had a similar lineup. What a grim lineup.
I guess they know their audience, Poverty Porn eat your heart out.

Little tip. The live channels via a NowTV box (only £14.99) are much better quality than traditional SD broadcasts. All BBC and ITV channels are available. Just catch-up for 4 and 5.

I didn't know that the NowTV box streamed the regular channels, I guess I just assumed wrongly that it was a catch up, on demand box. They have a new box coming out in September with 1080 rather than 720. I may just have to invest in one :)

A 35.7% share would've gained well over 7 million viewers later on in the year. It was only just behind Corrie.

They could've done this in their big October week which they've had in recent years. But is anyone else sick of contrived storylines taking place every year at the same time? Corrie's BGT week felt so stale and contrived this year. I'm actually glad they moved the storyline forward.

There own fault. They just gift BBC1 with a default audience. Hello Campers is no Coach Trip.

The rating and share for Bake Off was like an episode of BGT earlier in the year.

Astonishing ratings for Bake Off! :o

Disaster. They need to pull Hello Campers, or at least move it somewhere it'll cause less damage. Freeze Out isn't actually doing awfully for a new show given the circumstances, but isn't exactly going to be the next big thing.

I notice Tipping Point repeats have been parachuted in at 3pm next week, I wonder if that'll help matters.

Anything for 'The TV That Made Me' on BBC1?

Could be heading for nearly 15 million for the finale? Spectacular! :D

I disagree last series grew more due to the cheating scandal and higher exposure 9.3 million is a great rating but I sense it will stablise at 8-9 million and about 11 million for the final. it is in a good easy slot and unlike last year the weather isn't great at the moment.
