    This.

I thought we had moved past the point where being gay was seen as being detrimental to a career?

    Seriously - who gives a f**k?

That's not the point. The issue is whether he gave a job, paid from public funds, to a friend who appeared to have no special qualifications for the job.

That is totally untrue, party business is up to the political party, there are no rules whatsoever barring sharing of rooms.

absolute rubbish. Political party rules usually shadow those when in government as a precursor/training to when in power. Every political leader (hague was one remember) knows that. Have your read the travel and subsistence manual for the Tory party. I didnt think so.

This is beyond the 14 pints a night fiasco

Indeed, that is the point, which is why the rather homophobic innuendo is so distasteful. If Guido had evidence of an inappropriate relationship, he would have published it.

    I said that.

You have lots in common with Lesbians and Transexuals - a common belief in equality for all.

Isn't that socialists as well - that definition would imply that Lesbians and Transexuals can't be Tories:)

So Monty Burns has lost his Smithers ... :D

The rumours about Hague have been knocking about for years. This latest twist appears to be more than rumour.

In this day and age I don't see why any gay politician feels the need to hide his or her sexuality.

Actually, the way that Nick Robinson put it does make it sound like a pretty bizarre thing.

Why would you share a hotel room with somebody. Why?

While that is without a doubt dodgy - it's nothing new when it comes to politicians of both sides - Ken Livingston was famous when it came to giving jobs and grants to his mates.

If that is all this story is about then where is all this "gay" bullcrap coming from?

Gutter politics at it's worse IMO - as a bog standard straight bloke with no particular interest in gay issues - even I can detect the stench of homophobia and hypocracy* in this story.

*Including Hagues if this turns out to be anything other than political tripe.

What worries me is a cabinet minister relying on a 25 year old fresh from university as a "special advisor" - one of three Hague has - on foreign affairs.
I don't want to sound ageist but what can a person of that age with naturally very limited world experience have to offer a government minister ?

If there weren't enough single rooms to go round.

Well if the hotel can confirm that, then I'm sure all Hague's problems would be over. I don't think they will be able to confirm it though.

Hague is a senior politican, though. Too much toadying in politics for someone like him to bunk up with a driver-turned-special-adviser if there was a shortage of rooms. Unless he wanted to.

If the other person was a woman, what would people say?

And if she was a lesbian what would they say?

I don't think that William Hague will be Foreign Secretary by the end of next week.

    Cheaper.

    William Hague is a millionaire.

I like Hague, but I'm sorry there is something very strange about this story.

I'm not making excuses for him, just pointing out its cheaper. I'm just going to see what happens rather then speculate too much, I'm much too lazy for that.

James Landale said on the BBC News channel earlier that it is quite a common problem when out on the election campaign trail.

Apparently there are strong rumours circulatinig that he has been carrying on with one of his MALE aides!

He has denied it but that is par for the course surely.

Honestly thunderstruck, he is about as straight as they come. Surely?

    Full Story

Especially as the odious Hague was a big fan of Clause (Section) 28 Doesn't surprise me in the least. Often the biggest homophobes have serious concerns about their own sexuality. IMHO the chap wouldn't have felt the need to resign if there was nothing in the story. What has Ffion having miscarriages got to do with anything? Unless a smokescreen?

Have you read your Labour manual and got confused? How do you know it was paid for by the Conservative party? You don't, you are simply trying to fan the flames - entirely unsuccessfully I might add but it's rather entertaining.

What in a hotel that is not fully-booked? I find that very hard to believe.

Maybe if there were a large group and they all shared but not just two people.

I got the idea he's had to share with a man himself.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind being that man.

So the main question is: Who has Hague pissed off in the 'Establishment' to cause all this to appear out of nowhere?

I've shared on business trips, both to save money or because of space availability and there's never been any hanky panky.

For Mr Hague in hindsight it's probably the wrong call to have made but to dress it up as anything more based on no evidence whatsoever is not going to get this story very far.
