The BBC do like to make sure as they have been accused before of wrong reporting

They are living in 20th century. 21st century is overtaking them.

Petrie on LBC just admitted they are right to jump on the story as a lot of other news outlets are slow to catch up

In floods of tears here. Cilla has been such a huge part of British life for so long.

Why do the good always die young? :(

Cilla was someone I was indifferent to. If she became bitter and nasty in later years, maybe her husband dying didn't help. Hardly a unique way to be.

Just thought of a tribute the BBC could do. Show the unaired comedy pilot she did with Paul O'Grady. Led Astray.
Watched it as part of a survey I did. It was awful.

So in the 21st century, it's acceptable to broadcast the news of someone's death before being told it officially - meaning that some members of the person's own family might not yet know about it - is OK is it?

It's out everywhere else. Spanish Police had confirmed it.

Now that's a shock. Although cabin crews will possibly breathe a sigh of relief, she was a showbiz legend- never off the TV in the 80s. RIP.

Sorry for your loss as I assume you knew her personally for it to have such a profound effect on you.

I don't think anybody else had though, and that's the point.

From what the BBC reporter was saying, it has been impossible to get absolute confirmation, which is what the BBC will always try to do in circumstances such as this.

What did they want? A photo of her lying on a slab?

And personally did you have any dealings with her?

No. But why does that matter?

She died from natural causes, most people do.

    She just irritated me.

I would think that somebody you 'couldn't stand' must have personally affronted you in some way.

Seems a strong reaction to have to somebody you have never met.

Is 'Not my cup of tea' insufficient?

A second source presumably, which would normally be fairly easy to find in such circumstances, but for some reason on this occasion it wasn't.

The BBC should be covering Cilla's death on at least 3 channels as they did with Mandella.

Interesting point. I presume with mandela's death, all they had was the South African president announcing it. They didn't wait for a second source.

No. But why does that matter?

Because, within a few hours of her death, your on here trashing the woman even though you've not had any dealings with her personally?

From what I can tell, for all the nasty things posted here about her in the past couple of hours, theres only two posters that have actually met her.

One was a cabin crew who said she was very pleasant and one was someone who was on Surprise Surprise and said... She was very nice,

Ditto to the posters who seem to take personal offence to Cilla's lack of manners.

Are you too young to remember Lady Di? (My mum died a couple of years before and I was criticised for not being devastated when Lady Di was killed - we all have to be devastated when anyone dies now apparently.)

We're not all devastated. I was absolutely puzzled at why people were quite so distressed at Diana dying,.but it doesn't mean that people should be rude about someone who has just died either.
